For me it is 3 things.
Firstly the games for the launch far exceed the quality of the Playstation 2 launch games. Come a year from now and it's going to be great. With titles like HALO, DOA3, Gotham Racer, Wreckless e.t.c it's going ot be great right from the start. Okay so the selection is not going to be massive initially but more are on the way and not many people are going to buy all the games are they ? The range looks set to expand, with about 46 games by June.
Secondly, Microsoft. Everyone loves to hate them, but when you actually use software like Office XP, and hardware like the optical mouse, you realise it's actually pretty neat. Until now Microsoft have been quiet in the games department with only the odd PC release. Even so very few of their games have flopped completely. Windows may not be the most stable piece of software but when you consider everything the users do to it its not surprising ! Fact is, Microsoft can sustain more losses than either Sony or Nintendo and their console is the most future proof. They have the marketing power, a general name for quality and reliability. Microsoft are in this for the long haul now, if anyone's going to be a casualty of the next gen clash it is Nintendo with thir Gamecube. It is technically impressive and looks smart, but to me it seems aimed at a much younger age range than Sony and Microsoft. It's lower price point places it in the dangerous spot of attracting childrens games like Digimon, a fate that has befallen the PSONE. Yes, at £300 X Box is expensive, but I still have the receipt for a launch day Playstation which has £250 on it, and I did have one for a £299.99 Playstation 2. Early adopters do pay the price, but we get to have the most fun first :) Sony's Playstation 2 is a good console, but mine was plagued by technical faults and I grew fed up of waiting for the next big game every six months. With a lower price point Sony will do well, and are doing, but already "quality" titles like Monsters.Inc are creeping in...
Thirdly...the Buffy game :) hey I can't help it, it's brilliant !
Patience is a virtue...
> a)no console is future proof
I know, but some are more future proof than others.
b)the gamecube isnt aimed at children but it isnt

Id say the cubes

Maybe, but the Gamecube just, to me, doesn't have any games that catch my attention. Nintendo's own characters are fun, but I've grown out of them. I wouldn't say the PS2 is a fashion accessory really, just that the titles it has have allowed it to gain widespread appeal, more so than many other previous consoles. Whether Sony can retain this base of customers is another thing though. I like fun games, but I'd like them to be more different than what I used to play on the SNES. The graphics have changed now, the sound e.t.c but the basic gameplay is essentially the same.
>(i have a cube all redy form US, now thats

A store near me has an import X Box for £599.99 with games around 69.99...so I'm waiting for now :)

anyway
i dont know if i want an x-box. halo catches my fancy and the idea of a console rpg with a hard drive and online gaming, but i'll see what nintendo are thinking of yet.
