How do you define 'pop music'??? I say that it is 'popular music liked by everyone, usually dance or rap music', in a very brief description. But unfortunately punk and metal is entering the charts! And when bands like these become known to everyone instead of just one and only, it can only mean bad things!!

There are many bands out there, mainly in America that have worked their way up from the underground scene, where they're known by only a select few, only to be exploited by MTV and co., where they're known and loved by everyone. When this happens, it does mean more money, but it does effect the quality in their music. Mainly because of their new target audience. Where it's no longer teenagers and young adults, 8 year old boys and girls must be considered too. And when they change their focus, they loose their original fans.

Bands like Limp Bizkit and the Stereophonics, who haven't competed on shows like 'Pop Idol' and 'Popstars' to join a band, have become effected by all the public and commercial attention they now recieve. Many fans prefer their first 2 albums, and dis-like or even hate what they've become, and this includes many other bands too! They seem to be turning into more of a 'pop group' or 'pop band', instead of the rock/indie badns they have previously become known as!

Why did Wes Borland leave Limp Bizkit?? Maybe it was down to all the commercial attention the band have been recieving, as he's a man who likes to keep his strange self to himself. But surely they seem more like an older boy band now, as they've begun to break-up and are orditioning for a replacement! How could this happen to a once fantastic rap/metal band???? - They created POP MUSIC!!

You can just listen through a collection of one artists albums, like Limp Bizkit, and see for yourself how badly they've deteriorated due to their popularity. Limp were very rarely known at the times of '3 Dollar Bill, Yall$' and 'Significant Other', which are by far their greatest albums! And now with the release of 'Chocolate Starfish & The Hot Dog Flavoured Water', they do sound more like an average, dull, pop band! The title may sound bad, and so may some of the lyrics, but just look around... You have boys and even girls aged 7 and less singing along to Rollin', when you know it just isn't right!!

For me, this effect has happened to enough bands! And you know it's gone far enough when they appear on Top Of The Pops! I saw Sum41 on their with 'In Too Deep' quite recently. I was shocked and frustrated enough to see a punk band their, but to realise they were playing with a backing track....AAAAAAAAAAHH!!!! The pop charts just isn't the place for anyhting alternative! Punk, Rock, Metal, Grunge....whatever, if it doesn't have a people who don't know each other and music they don't even write, then it does NOT deserve to be anywhere near the pop charts!! Other bands deserve to stay there as they started a mess and will finnish one, when they all break up and go solo!

That's why it's called 'alternative' music! It's an alternative listening option to all those happy, gay, repetative excuses for real music!

What do I mean by all this??? That great bands and artists become a waste of space once everyone knows who they are!!
For the safety of punk, metal and co., all bands involved should stay clear of the media and publicity! They're better off underground, creating the music THEY WANT to create!

I've also been shocked recently to see names like 'System Of A Down' and 'Incubus' appearing in the pop charts!! Can't those money-grabbers just leave the true music alone!!???
