I claimed it for a gameaday prize a while back and it arrived this morning. I played the demo on the official mag loads and loved it so I new wouldn't be disappointed. And I'm not. It is absolutely brilliant. Loads more weapons than the demo has and the ships actually handle really differently.
I love it!
I have never played a previous wipeout game in any great length. I played the original a few times but only for a few minutes, so it's all new to me. And it is brilliant.
Anyone else got it yet?
Or do SR just love ME, and ONLY me? :-D
> One review I read (can't remember which mag)
As devo said, it was PSM2. The reason I nearly didn`t buy it. Most other mags have been putting it around the 9 mark, but PSM2 said 73, but I decided for the first time to just ignore them :-)
One complaint was that it was too hard... but to me, whilst I`m no expert gamer, the harder the better as it could mean I`m still playing in a couple of months time.
Also I remember one mag mentioning slow down. I've seen one case of slow down in two hours play so far. So that doesn't seem to be much of a problem, at the moment at least.
One thing I have seen is when going down the final straight, I was behind one other ship. I had the greater acceleration, and rather than like in most games where you would whizz past the ship ahead, without it seemingly acknowledging your existence, it pulled up in front of me, and blocked me. Neat.
One particularly cool thing I have seen was following a pack of ships blowing the proverbial out of each other, one was hit, knocked off the track, and blew up in a wall. In fact, whereas with previous Wipeouts you could feel like the race was between you and the others, it's now every man and woman for theirselves. Your opponents are far more aggressive between each other.
> It also said that is an AI ship
*if an AI ship
Can anyone verify or refute this?
One thing they did mention in the review was that the removal of the '3-2-1 go' felt wrong. I thought it would too, but the new start method works just as well. And you can get a boosted start just as easily. I'm not sure what they were complaining about there....
