I bought "Stig of The Dump" today, haven't read that since I was a kid.
It's fantastic.

And I've got The Jackson 5 playing
"I want you back" and "ABC".
Jacko may be circus folk now, but these songs rocked

Ah Stig Of The Dump, always a favourite at my junior school. I personally was a enemy of Stig's, probably because I refused to read the book probably because of the boring cover. Thats child thoughts for you.

I agree with the Jackson thing, he truly was a king in my eyes. Shame about his work now, he should of quit while he was ahead. Had enough money didn't he?

I remember having to read that in school when I was younger, It was great but we never got to do any of the good stuff like make things or beat people with sticks. We were allowed to draw pictures and that was it.

Ah, I can top that. When I was 7, I think, possibly 6, there was a Stig of The Dump toru type thing, where'd we'd tramp through hills following this actor guy who looked like Stig, occasionally catching a glimpse of him, then we all had plastic clubs that squeaked and we beat him. Then we beat each other. Then they had a quarry fixed up like Stig's. It was very cool. For a 7 yr old. And a 17 yr old, come to think of it. Beats TV anyday.

Yeah that's what made me buy it again, to see if it was as good as I remember.
And it is, so no need to watch that show and ruin it.

I made a "Stig House" at primary school out of clay, I still have it somewhere.

Excellent book. He makes chimneys out of tins and windows out of bottles. Then the rebel kid nicks his grandfather's axe and chops down random trees. Then the dogs chase them. And they dress up and go to a party.

Anyway, it's been made into a "BBC Sunday Dinnertime series", so it'll be terrible. I refuse to watch it.
