I didn't trust the machines so I carried the tapes on my person - bad idea.

The bleeping thing went off and the bloke searched me. He told me off for carying them when I should have put them through the machine and told me to stand against the wall like a criminal... legs and arms akimbo.

He then checked my shoes for explosives.

No exploding shoes and my DV worked so I was a happy bunny.

I took my Mini DV camera to the US with me and it went quite happily through X-ray machines, memory stick and tapes with no adverse effects.

I wouldn't take that as a rule for all DV cameras but nothing happened to mine.

I don't think the x-rays would damage it, as my dad has taken his 3 times, and it's still fine!

That also reminds me...about 2 years ago my dad went to Cyprus with his friend, they arrived at Larnaca airport, and he got out his camera and began filming the airport. Suddenly, he's surrounded by several Cypriot guards with guns, who think he's a spy!! But luckily his friend was from Cyprus, so he explained what they're doing, and they carried on with their holiday.
This is true as they've both confirmed it, and my dad is the only one who'd lie.

As long as you don't let it pass through the X-Ray machine, it should be OK... I'm sure if you show the official people that it's just a tape or what ever, you should be able to walk through the metal detector without it wiping.

I'd look in the manual under the makers reccomendations. The media will definaltley wipe (DV Cassette, memoery Stick etc) but not sure about the Hardware it's self. Always read the manual:-)

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
