Are the days of the movie industry really numbered? Or will it come back. I personally find gaming a superior form of entertainment then movies nowadays. The thing is all or most of the ideas that films can perform have been tried and are exhausted now, (i.e. action packed violence, love stories, drama, special effects, etc). I watch action films but to me they don’t really have the wow affect any more, the last film that amazed me with its special effects was the Matrix after that most action films usually just bore me.

On the other hand games are just a brilliant form of entertainment, as they provide a challenge at the same time as entertainment. As for acting and stories, games like metal gear solid, final fantasy and Zelda have deep story lines which take the whole experience to another level. plus games are not just a 2 hours long like movies some can actually take up to 60 hours to complete (back in the old days I remember games which could be completed in about 20 minutes) I think developers are really just starting to discover the true potential of gaming cinematics.

In games you have far more control over what happens for example in some game what you do in a game effects the ending (i.e. games with multiple endings like silent hill) as you actually control the main character, and feel the skill it take to achieve tasks. So when playing games you are actually going thorough an adventure instead of some over paid bimbo as in the case of films.

also as technology progresses the experience of games has far out paced that of films, for example we have rumble packs (n64 body thing), vibration (ps2 controller), hand held guns (some even have recoil effects) etc. who knows what the future holds, we have already started to see glasses which are small but display a large viewing screen. It can’t be long before holographic technology starts to appear.

Also I have noticed a lot of older people in the regions of 25- 30 years of age, are starting to play games, before it just uses to be kids, it just shows that the public are starting to realise the entertaining aspect of games.

take for example metal gear solid it feels just like a movie with all different aspects from other movies mixed together to make a perfect game, just recently we have seen the matrix rip ‘Max Payne’ this game was on top of the charts for a long time.

What my main point is, are movies still a better forum of entertainment then games?

Hey, pretty soon games WILL be movies!

We'll sit in the cinema, watching a film, and at certain parts we'll be able to take control of the main character with the joypads on the seats
