You're either completely insane, or jealous that the GC is getting

I watched my mate play a demo, I was totally bored because I don't like this type of game. But you forgot to mention the storyline, from what I have heard it is trully superb.

LA LA LA LA not listening to you LA LA LA LA!!!
Mario brothers 1 Mario Brothers 2 ( a very different game) mario brothers 3 (like the first).
Mario World (a revolution in itself), Mario world 2: yoshi's island (not actually staring mario and a different type of platformer).
Mario land 1 and 2 (gameboy versions of the above lot different titles but these games were just small versions of the bigger guys.)
Mario 64 (a 2D platformer to a 3D world is this a sequel?)
I counted 8 (excluding Donkey Kong).

Its not just the same game released over and over

Sure, we had some ports onto the GBA, but thats becasue there is a

But still lots. {:) Mario Bros 1 and 2 (maybe more), Super Mario Bros 1 and 2 (maybe more), Mario 64-notice that the main reason people don't class them as sequels is the change of name. Adding 'Super' to the front for instance.

Final Fantasy x is a good

We don't! I've got lots of new games on the PS2: Smuggler's Run, Red Faction, Zone Of The Enders, Star Wars Starfighter, Max Payne, GTA3 and anyway, MGS2 is not the 'same old', at least gameplay and graphics-wise. More controls, weapons, new plot, characters etc.
I would say there's a nice balance between sequels and originals, and a sequel will work as long as there's some new elements involved. After all, sequels usually come after great originals.
