Will this be like any other console war as we've seen it though? Will it be like the old Super Nintendo and MegaDrive days where two consoles battled it out, each competing with their own games, the Super Nintendo with Mario and the MegaDrive with Sonic the Hedgehog? Or will it be like the previous round where the Playstation with it's inferior power managed to beat both the Nintendo 64 and the Dreamcast because of all it's third pary support?
I don't think it will.
As you already know, every gamer has his own preference to a certain console of make. We have the Sony gamer who loves every version of Playstation, who disagrees with anyone and everyone who claims that another console is better, and who will not except anyone elses opinions no matter what. Then we have the Sega gamer who is now left without a home. The Dreamcast is out of production now, and slowly, but surely, games are emptying off the shelves. The Sega gamer is generally more open minded and isn't afraid to try anything new. Last, but not least, we have the Nintendo gamer, who has all the Mario games, all the previous consoles, and likes to boast about how Nintendo designed the original Playstation. They are now generally called "Ninty's" and are classed as babyish gamers, but litle do others know that Nintendo's games have more of an adult theme than they think.
So what has this actually got to do with this era?
Well, maybe not much at all, but initially it will be the decider between who gets what console. Sony fans have already had a years head-start over the GameCube and X-box, and have probably already got their hands on their backwards compatable, DVD playable, entertainment system, namely the Playstation 2. The majority of Nintendo fans will most probably have already pre-ordered their GameCube's ready for the May 3rd release and may already be playing on their Game Boy Advances. However, what happens to the Sega fans? Some are likely to split opinions and go for wither the Playstation 2 or the GameCube, but the thrid option, the X-box, might just be the thing for them. They'll basically be steppin on neutral ground, away from the Sony and Nintendo fans, but having most of the same great games that Sega will be releasing on all consoles very soon.
You mean that Sega are releasing most of their new games on all three systems?
Well, not just Sega! We will of course be seeing games like Crazy Taxi on all three systems from Sega, but did you ever think we'd be seeing Turok Evolution on the PS2 or X-box? It's the first Turok game in the long series to be released multi-format, making it available for all fans of first person shooters without having to own the Nintendo 64.
This is what is so different about this stage in the long and epic console wars. Never before have we had so much third party support for all systems. In the past there were very few games released like this, mostly exclusives which meant you had to be very rich, or very lucky to be able to play some of the games in the past. But this time you should be able to look in the magazine, just think of a game, and look at the console you wish to buy it for. Then call Special Reserve and in a day or two you've got it. Of course Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft are going to have some exclusivity, and third parties may favour to a certain console in the future, but right now the wars have never been so much in our favour!
This is a new era for gaming, one where you can buy what you want, for any console!
What do you think about it?
> it is a good move to see sega making games for various consoles but i hope in
> the future they will release there own console.
No doubt about it!
They originally started out just making games, so I reckon this "supply for other consoles" stuff is just temporary
> skies of arcadia is confirmed for gamecube, i think. in fact i'm almost sure
I hope you're right (and I hope it's got some improvements, otherwise I'll stick to my Dreamcast version).
I'm checking Sega.com now, but knowing them, news wont be on their site til everyone has already heard it....
now my mate bought a PS2 with red faction, crazy taxi and code veronica for christmas, and i can safely say he completed them and now is bored outta his mind with the ps2. in fact, he's gonna sell it after mgs2 and get the GC.
my opinion is that the sega was good, but nintendo rule, and that sony can sit in the corner somewhere, cuz to be honest, even the dumbest of ps2 fans in my class now really what money spinners sony are, i mean multi-tap, come on. oh yeah, and the ps3 already on the way. i know my mate sits at home and regrets buying that thing.
of course, the GC will have the best multi player c=game ever by a country mile in smash bros, so theres a reason for everyone to buy it. and frankly, to buy an Xbox for twice the price with halo, commandos 2, and chmapionship manager, its 3 best games available or soon to be on the PC, you really would have to be stupid, no offense to ye.
by the way, i wasn't joking, the best ever. i've plated goldeneye, perfect dark, yer quakes and half-lifes online, and i'll argue that statement to my grave
However, Sega have confirmed games like Crazy Taxi 3 for X-box and Skies of Arcadia (which is my favourite Dreamcast game at the moment :) ) for the Playstation 2.
I recon that Sega would make more money releasing these as multiformat games.
