Where on the 'net I can find an independant report comparing different Linux OS's.

I need to compare RedHat and QNX and a couple of others, but I can't find anything with a crappy search engine. Anyone know of any specific sites?

Cheers.

Bleh, I still think RedHat uses the ancient 2.2x kernel... in fact most of them do, even the great Debian Potato!

All of you have the wrong end of the stick.

QNX and LynxOS are both RTOS, designed specifically for embedded systems. LynxOS is Linux compatible, but QNX isn't. The benefit of using RTOS is that they are completely modular.

Kernals can range from 256k up.

RTOS also can also run on exceedingly small requirements. LynxOS, for example, only needs 500k RAM for the kernal, and 1073bytes for every additional process.

RTOS also differ from GOS (General OS) in that they have a much larger number of priority levels. USing LynxOS as an example again, it has 512 different priorities.

They are also low latency with Thread Switch Latency's being around 4uS, and Maximum Interrupt Latency's being around 14uS.

Compare that to RedHat lads...

No, ignore him, get Red Hat 7.2. They're essentially the same and just as easy to install (apparently) but Red Hat is better, in my opinion. Mandrake nearly put me right off Linux for good.

For Clarification, QNX has nothing to do with GNU/Linux except both being POSIX-compliant (or "UNIXy" to put it into an adjective). QNX is a proprietary highly modular system that's very useful for embedded systems, but doesn't have a particually strong x86 distribution.

If you want "Linux" as a newbie, try Mandrake -- you can download an iso image to burn to CD or buy both boxed-set or cheap (as in a few quid, as opposed to 40) two-cd sets.

http://playstation2-linux.com/ is the English Linux PS2 official site

Gnome.org is for GNOME, a graphical desktop. You may also want try kde.org then, which is the default GUI with many distros, but IMHO not as good as GNOME.

Also:

http://www.linuxtoday.com/ and http://www.linuxgazette.com/ (not sure about the TLD, might need to google it).

Thanks for the links, I didn't find what I needed there, it didn't go quite in depth enough.

I did find what I wanted at www.dedicated-systems.com/encyc

Thanks for the help anyway though.
