most 8x agp are close to useles all they do is gaurantee a maximum bandwidth that most games never use and for the extra money they are not currently worth it

Radeon cards work on twice the bit rate but less bandwidth the FX cards comming out soon are still half the bit rate but have higher frequencies on the chip but still are not better than radeon for bandwidth

Its horses for courses im afraid buy the rite card for the games and applications you want to run within your own budget

Fastest computer I've ever owned was an Athlon 1Ghz. It ran out of legs slightly playing some high end games (Warcraft III and UT2K3 used to give it and its graphics card a very hard time) but it threw Windows around like no computer before or since.

I'd get the most powerfull processer P4 2.8 (even though Athalon is the best make) cos game are getting more processer reliable. I bought my Ath 1.5 last summer and it already sucks on games e.g. BF 1942.

dont get a GF4 MMX cos they suck i know ive got one :(

Get a GF4 TIE or w8 for the new GFFX coming out soon

RAM is spot on, dont stoop to a 256 cos it is the min amount for XP to run on

I would wait a month or so and either get a brandnew Geforce FX card or wait till the GF 4's plummet in price.

definately Athlon, price/performance is good with Athlon's :)

heres a performance comparison hope its of help

I'd go for the athlon radeon for price and P4 geforce for stabillity and overall performance (DO NOT GET AN GF MX tho) they are very cut down versions of high performance cards and will not make use of your new computer system.
