Would you take the view that publishers are the route of all things bad in the gaming industry? If it wasn't for the tight deadlines they impose on the developers then maybe we wouldn't get so much rubish onto the shop shelves. I see on a annual basis games that are not quite finished, riddled with bugs, or just plain awful, and how much of that is contributed to laziness on the developers part or pressure forced onto them by the publishers? Of course not all publishers are bad, and we shouldn't tie them all under the same brush as "EA", but things clearly need to be done a different way.

Maybe if developers could publish their own games we mite see less drab. And how hard could it be? All it requires is a bit of plastic or cardboard, and some coloured ink. Oh, and a few million pounds worth of machinery but they are making that kind of money to do it.

At present, if it wasn't for the coding talent of a few quality developers that are able to work under these difficult conditions, I don't think we would have a single decent game out there.

So publishers, give them some slack or prepare for the backlash of the industry dying.
