Would an American 56k modem work with a PAL GameCube? I am dying to get Phantasy Star Online 1+2 imported from America, but I wanna know if the modem would work with the PAL GameCube.

hi all, you will find it extremely hard to find a US modem and phantasy star online for less than £70 - £100 now, most stores int eh US have stopped selling it.

i know www.cagames.co.uk have some but there around £79.99 then another £40 for modem!

Well i dont know about braodband access (since i cant get it, i dont bother about it) but im certain any dial up modem will work. Certainly the guide to playing PSO in NGC magazine doesnt specify a certain modem must be used.

I'm suprised by that cookie. Over in America they use a different phone system (T1), whilst we use E1. Although this *may* not alter local, dial-up standards it should make it impossible to use ADSL/ISDN modems over here.... I'd like to know if this is true?

There is no reason why it shouldn't

PC modems are universal, this shouldn't be any different

The TV thing is the old NTSC/PAL difference.

Not very well know about I know.

I'm not sure about the modems though.

good question deathscythe. My GC wouldnt work on a american tele(canadian actually) and we thought that it was becasue the wirieng in foreign plugs is lined up differently to the wireing in our plugs. This means that the wrong wires inside the tube conecct resulting in the right info not getting sent down the line. whether this is just for tvs im not sure but connecting the modem with the tap in the wall might result in the same affect as the tele. Im not sure if the modem is going to come out over here, but if it is i would just wait for it and not risk it. if not, i wouldnt bother risking it.

I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't but I have no idea. My brother had PSO for his DC and it was excellent so I'm looking forward to it. You might as well wait another 2-3 months before it comes out over here.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Just a quick note to say thanks for a very good service ... in fact excellent service..
