The biggest problem with films today is that a majority of them are made to target at the teenage audience- now the highest proportion of film-goers.

Although this isn't necissarily a bad thing, it has two alarming consequences.

Firstly, Hollywood isn't likely to make serious films that really touch on deep issues. For example, just recently I heard that one excellent screenplay was rejected because not enough people in the teenage market were aware that World War 2 had occurred. Since the film played deeply into the emotions of the soldier, and the history of the war, it was scrapped.

Not only this, but some film companies only make serious films as a "prestige" product- much like limmitted edition goods that no one buys. These filsm are often just books that have been translated for the big screen.

The second alarming problem with films is that low budget, well made films just aren't seen because they don't have the big advertising budget. They're even exploited in the case of Vanilla Sky- a remake of what is meant to be a far better Spanish film.

If you liked Boyz in the hood and Menace 2 society you should watch 'Don't be a menace to south central while drinking your juice in the hood' as this film takes the mickey out of these films and growing up in the hood and this is not no Hollywood crap its just plain funny.

Well, they know a lot, but what they "know" is wrong

Yeah, it's somewhere along the lines of what you said, except you forgot -

"America goes to Europe and defeats Germany single handedly"

Film makers are out to make money, they dont really care about us. If they dont think they will make enough money they wont make the film. remaking films is a very common thing because it saves time and effort for the production company.
