I've always been taught to turn off a console before unplugging the controllers and or memory cards, and some people tell me that it's pointless, as you could have to reset the console when near the end of the game, but I say that its safer to the console etc. Of course, I'm not crazy enough to turn off the game if I'm near completion, I would just slyly slip a memory card in :D, but if I've just started, I would turn it off. Some say this is silly, but its safer! PC's are much more handy, with plug and play, which allows you to keep the PC switched on whilst you plug something in!
The question I ask is this: Do you turn your console off before inserting anything?

Same here - I've never had a broken console, speaking of which, my cousins are devils for that. One of them accidentally pulled back on a controller and the PS1 fell to the floor and broke. Then, one of my cousins sold their 2nd PS1, and they've just bought a 3rd one! What mugs their parents (my uncle/auntie) are!
