The "Freeola Customer Forum" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
I will say it's mainly about a webcomic so I'm guessing as it's so reliant on images rather than information, I'd be a fool to still be stuck in the past.
What's the next step up, width wise from 770 (or is it 760? I forget)?
Positioning will have little effect on pages that are larger than the reserved space, it's just a personal preference of Freeola to be placed in the centre rather than the left / right of the browser when there is extra space.
When there isn't enough space, again it might be a bit of a pain, depending of the site design. For example .... hang on, when did Freeola change the design? Ops, anyway, for example with Freeola, the threads are fine, and don't require right scrolling, but the thread listings do because the 'view' and 'posts' bit is too far over for me. This isn't really a problem as A: scrolling doesn't bother me that much, and B: that info isn't of importance to me anyway. But if your text overlapped that are, causing me to go left and right with the scroller, I'd more than likely get bored easily.

Oh yes I forgot to say that I find your search quite useful Hmmm =)
Yeah that was just a lie to throw you off. I havent given up anyway =) But I am in a rush to finish, I have my girlfriend visiting in the beginning of September.
I havent really thought about it much but does it make it easier for people using mobile/console devices? I havent really heard anything about pda and wap sites anymore.
Also why did sites like Special Reserve have it positioned on the left while others in the centre? Does it matter much now where it's positioned?
I would say don't change for the sake of it, for changes sake, or because other web sites are doing, because I expect you'll find most sites simply copy of other sites, which copied of other sites, and it's more a case of follow the leader than there actually being a requirement.
But at the same time, I wouldn't worry to much about it, and if it's easier for you to design you layout with then why not go for it - as long as the important part of the content is viewable to begin with on 800 x 600 screens, then the incentive is there to scroll to the left / right.
I will say it's mainly about a webcomic so I'm guessing as it's so reliant on images rather than information, I'd be a fool to still be stuck in the past.
