Parte Ye Firste - Tim Vine:
Righty ho, does anyone know who Tim Vine is? No, didn't think so. Ok, he's a British "Quote" Comedian "End Quote" who is responsible for the host-like ramblings in C5's Whittle and is equally responsible for the equally pants The Sketch Show (With Jim Tavarre as his accomplice) on ITV. So we're all clear on who Tim Vine is - he's not a very funny man.
Parte Ye Seconde - The Scenario:
Somehow, said Tim Vine, comedian extraordinaire, managed to wangle his way onto a huge national, annual event. He did a set of sketches for a few minutes and then went backstage, where he was accosted by the female host and a live TV camera feed. "Tell us a joke, Tim", she said, not knowing what was about to follow.
Parte Ye Thirde - The Joke (You ready for this?):
Why are pilots never called 'Jack'?
Because when they get in the cockpit the co-pilot shouts 'Hi, Jack!'.
Parte Ye Forth - The Point:
This was said live on Children In Need, in front of an audience of 19 million, about a month after the World Trade Centre hijacks. If ever there was a wrong time and place to tell a joke like that, it was there and then.
Tim Vine, I hope you never work in teleland again.
