Sega are the masters of the arcade, and because of their super-talent & dedicated in house game design teams, they really do sit proud at the top of the software elite. If you can think hypothetically for a moment – if Sega released their very own all-new piece of hardwaring technology, you know what could happen? The current crop of next generation games machines have never looked seemed so fantastic, and in nearly all three the cream is coming from Sega.
Crazy Taxi 3, House of the Dead 3, Virtua Fighter 4, Super Monkey Ball, Phantasy Star Online 2, Skies of Arcadia, Rez, Shenmue saga, Panzer Dragoon etc – these are some of the most exciting titles soon to be released, and they’re all landing on different consoles. Imagine if Sega decided to end all exclusivity deals with Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft and instead, bring the games out on their own new console (obviously there’d be no point in releasing everything on the Dreamcast), I personally think that this would have an astronomical effect on everything virtually polygonal.
Sega could become the kings of console gaming once more; die hard Sega supporters would soon be back on cloud 9 knowing that Skies of Arcadia could only be played through their console, AM2 would be a name to remember once more – they’re the makers of Virtua Fighter 4 of course (Yu Suzuki’s people) instead of PS2 owners just thinking it was from ‘Sega’. Genre defying insanity, which we all clearly want to experience, would sell as it deserved to do – we’d have games like Seamen being released in Europe, more versions of Samba De Amigo and more; literally, if Sega pulled itself together it could release something truly amazing, not because it looked impressive, had a handle or could sit in a stand, but because it’d have the most saliva provoking titles around.
It’s not going to happen, but it’s just an idea from someone who’s appreciated Sonic Adventure, who’s experienced online Quake 3, ChuChu and Planet Ring, whose PS2 send off turned into hours of gaming fun from Virtua Tennis, Chu Chu Rocket and the wacky Power Stone 2 – Sega rule. Now everyone else can appreciate their games on the format they choose to buy – and we do want Sega games!

Sonic
It was release on the Dreamcast in Japan and America- with the twin stick controllers (which sold out). I even got a copied version of it for my DC- but without the link up of twin sticks it just doesn't do anything for me...
Anyway, the reason the game didn't come out here is that it wouldn't sell... it's too obscure... even in the US only a few thousand copies were released, and the twin sticks sold out completely.
Sonic
Think about it:
The original arcade machine had two joysticks, with 2 buttons on each. And what does the Dual Shock have? Two joysticks and two shoulder buttons! Get in! That game was class, it would be a *crime* for Sega not to do a PS2 version. Even a port would do - they don't make that cabinet any more!
New ideas are short but sweet so if they are rejected by the public, Nintendo don't lose much money.
Garaunteed sellers, like Zelda and Mario games have bigger Dev teams with a bigger budget and more time to put the game together. As a result, these games will be bigger.
And when these new ideas are accepted (like Pikmin), Nintendo then devellop a sequel to expand the idea and add more depth - they can afford to now they know it'll sell!
It's not fair... it's just not fair :'(
I think that if Nintendo are going for mini-games, they should find ways of making them last longer despite being small.
Difficulty settings is certainly one way, multiplayer is another.
As for Sega being a force in gaming, you know, by the end of this year they will be the second biggest publisher of games in the world after Nintendo (and having overtaken Namco). Unlike Nintendo though, Sega produces far more in house game- 9 teams each being able to make up to six games a year (although most go for about three or four). It's probably one of the biggest inhouse development team in the world!
