Anyways, the tale of how they became soggy...
I've just finished a 24 hour marathon for Cancer Research with a load of mates from school. Was at the local secondary school around their race track, luckily we weren't forced to run, in fact we were allowed to move around the track however we wanted as long as we kept moving and atleast 2 people from our team were on the track at all times. We were also allowed to set up a stall, where we sold doughnuts and other snacks, to raise further money for the charity.
It started at 12 yesterday and the weather was lovely, then later in the afternoon towards evening time the rain and wind came. Everything went very gloomy. But thanks to our local radio station being present we went on, despite a few extremely cheesey songs on the playlist.
We set up the tents before the rain came fortunately but the rain wouldn't quit hammering down. I was quite lucky and didn't have to do that much in the night, but others kept on the track throughout.
Morning soon arrived and the rain was a bit lighter. Most of the people camping over were woken with 'Morning campers!' yelled down a microphone from the radio station's lorry at about half 7 - did these people not realise there was a serious lack of sleep? The yelling didn't stop there and soon songs were being played at full blast, people were desperate and a few wanted to sabotage the equipment. After a bit of grub however we were almost ready to keep going on and on 'til midday.
Soon an Elvis impersonator was on the mic, booming across the field. It provided a bit of motivation to keep going and we decided walking just wasn't exciting enough as everyone else was doing the same. So, then came the dancing. I don't know where the energy came from but there was a lot of 'dancing' much to the amusement of people watching. We liked to think it spurred them on.
The rain was now harder and the auto DJ was back in action, we were determined to keep dancing (sorry, 'dancing') round the track and eventually we finished, with the rain getting even harder, bang on noon.
We had moved the doughnuts and the other snacks into one of the tents' porch* kinda areas but the water got in and made them just a little bit damp. In celebration of our achievement we feasted on the left overs that couldn't be sold - such class and style.
So yeah that's the story - V Fest had nothing on it.
*On this - when we first setting up we didn't have enough tents for all of our team so one of us went into town and bought a new one, the woman selling it described it as a total bargain because not only did it sleep 4 but it also had a 'kind of kitchen area' which just turned out to be the 'porch' where water could easily get in. Maybe she just said kitchen because she knew it would have running water...
So, been up to much yourselves, anyone else done anything to make their feet wet and ache?
Sounds like you had a good laugh, but then I wouldn't expect the V Festival to have a decent lineup anyway...
