Fans pay hundreds of pounds to go week-in, week-out to watch there beloved team but supporters that are there just to give out abuse to players are ruining the game of football.
There have been many incidents of violence not only in a football grounds but outside the grounds not only towards the opposing team but to the opposing country. In Euro 2000 there was a huge amount of violence outside grounds which, I’m sad to say, were caused mostly by English fans. Riots and fights broke out and UEFA/FIFA threatened to kick England out of the competition. Everyone back home was worried about England’s future in the competition and hoped that the hooligans would stop. In the end we weren’t thrown out the competition but failed to qualify for the next stage anyway. The question is, if we had got through to the next round, would the rioting of stopped or would there of been more violence making the front and back page of the news papers over all of Europe?
Since this, there have been many incidents where players and referees have had coins thrown at them! A recent incident involving Jamie Carrager was what brought this to my attention. It seemed that when Jamie through that coin back, he meant it. But then people in the crowd started to complain. Why are they throwing coins at players when they don’t like getting coins thrown at them themselves? It sounds a stupid question, but its true!!!! Also a couple of referees in Scotland and England have been struck on the head by coins.
Also fans outside stadiums have been stabbed and some even killed. For example, two people leaving a Millwall F.C. game!
Another question has to asked, is going to a football match safe anymore?
Ajax Amsterdam, in Holland have recently got people to empty there pockets of change into a large container to try and prevent the throwing of coins! This is one of not many incidents where clubs have gone to extreme measures to try and prevent coin throwing from happening!
All of the matches I have been to, I’ve heard all the swear words in the book and even some I haven’t heard, but clubs try to come across as a family club. Honestly, has anyone seen a whole family go to a football match together and enjoy them selves? Well, maybe I have, but not very often! Normally you see a dad and his son enter the football match with a match programme in one hand and a carrier bag from the megastore in the other, not a mum and her daughter.
The incidents I’ve just mentioned and many more are the reasons why families don’t go to football matches together and why going to a football match on a Saturday after noon isn’t safe anymore! I used to enjoy it, but now I have to watch everywhere I go try and avoid the 30 year old, shouting, racist, cigarette smoking, beer drinking football fans of today!
Cheers for reading my discussion and look forward to reading you replies! :D
But the FA did not allow this, so they did not allow this and only imposed a small fine as they were warned about potential trouble.
