Stargate SG-1has brought a lot of pleasure to sci-fi fans everywhere.
The Stargate series that followed shortly after the film (Which was as good as the series) proved to be a huge success.

For those poor soles who haven’t seen Stargate yet it’s about a team of explorers who discovered a round gate which allowed for interstellar travel in vast proportions, it later came to be known as the Stargate.
Along the way they encountered a race known as the Goa’uld which became the Sg1’s enemies.
The Gou’uld fought back with a surprising amount of resistance but the Sg1 crew always came better of and overpowered any system Lords that stood in their way.

One of the most powerful Goa’uld they came across was apophis.
They killed him once but his other comrades were able to get him into a sarcophagus and he came back and tried to destroy earth.
SG1 eventually defeated apophis over a couple of episodes.

Of course Stargate SG-1 wasn’t always about the fight against the Goa’uld. It’s about exploring new worlds and forming diplomatic relations with technologically advanced species.
One alliance which they formed which proved to be unreliable at times was the Tok’ra.
They often never told the whole story and left SG-1 standing in the dark until the last minute, which really Annoyed Colonel Jack ‘O’ Neil.
They also formed some powerful alliances like the Tok’ra and the Asgard who helped them quite a lot.

One of the funniest characters had to be Colonel Jack ‘o’ Neil.
He seemed to have an almost child-like attitude towards certain dilemmas that they had to face.
He did provide quite a few laughs throughout the series though.
He played an important role in SG-1, as he was the commanding officer.
He played his part extremely well over the years.

Daniel Jackson also played a big role in the team.
He played the part of an archaeologist and often helped decipher some alien text.
At the start of the series Jack thought Daniel was a nerd but Jack eventually grew to like and trust Daniel.

Te’alc was a Jaffa that freed himself from the false Gods known as the Goa’uld and sided with SG-1 to help defeat the Goa’uld.
He was rather quite but he did have a rather unusual sense of humour. He tried to improve is sense of humour but to no avail.
Whenever Jack or the rest of the team made a joke everybody except from Te’alc who just stood there.
When Te’alc did eventually try to make a joke nobody laughed or smiled at him. Which was rather funny.

Major Samantha Carter was the only Female member of SG-1 but she stood up for herself whenever she was faced with difficult situations.
She helped with most of the technical stuff and I think she enjoyed annoying Jack with all the Technical babble.
She was one of the more mature members of SG-1.

General George Hammond was in charge of the whole SGC project.
When faced with difficult decisions he usually made them without much hesitation.
He occasionally raised a grin or two but he usually stayed straight-faced, how I don’t know but he did.

Some of the digital effects such as the watery Stargate were amazing.
They would have to be if they wanted Stargate SG-1 to be classified as a sci-fi programme.
The graphic designers also had to create some big alien ships like the Goa’uld mothership or the Asgard ships.
So for that I’ll give the graphic designers some credit.

Most of the credit though goes to the costume makers who had to make some fairly difficult costumes.
The make up artists also deserve some credit to, as they had to spend hours putting the make up on the all-important stars.
The rest of the credit though has to go to the superb cast. The most important ingredient when coming to make a sci-fi series is of course the cast. Choosing the cast is like choosing the ingredients for a cooking recipe if you choose the wrong ingredient then the whole recipe would be a disaster.
Fortunately for Richard Dean Anderson he picked the right ingredients and made the whole series a huge success.

Sadly the Stargate Series is drawing to a close. With one episode left it looks as of they are going to finish the series with an all out thriller, I can’t wait.
I personally love Stargate and will for a long time. It will be missed though.
I’m sure there are millions of people out there agree with me when I say: “Stargate SG-1will be remembered forever as a classic sci-fi,”

Thanks For Reading!

Just been informed that after the movie a spin-off series called Stargate Atlantis will be made with one of the regular members of SG-1 being a part of it.

You'll be pleased to hear that a sixth series has been commissioned and also a blockbuster movie that will conclude the show.

I think Daniel will be back either next episode or sometime next series as it would never work without him in the sixth series.

I liked stargate sg-1 but I could only see it when channel 4 would show it.
like the angel fiasco they shifted its timeslot around and put it on a t4 slot and showed repeats. I'd one day like to watch them all to see the ones I missed (quite a few actually) and if I do eventually get a decent job I might get some of them on dvd (among other shows)
