Okies. This is to do with the 'possibly fried' ISA modem topic in FOG chat.

Okay TBN, I have SiSoft sandra, and from what I can tell I do indeed have an ISA slot.

Here's the details from the expansion slots section:
ISA - ISA 16-bit 5V FullLength
PCI (13h) - PCI 32-bit 5V FullLength Available
PCI (11h) - PCI 32-bit 5V FullLength Available
PCI (Fh) - PCI 32-bit 5V FullLength Available
PCI (Dh) - PCI 32-bit 5V FullLength InUse (by my network card)
PCI (8h) - PCI 32-bit 5V FullLength Available
AGP (8h) - ISA 32-bit 5V FullLength InUse (by my graphics card)

So.... why doesn't it appear to tell me if the ISA is in use?

I don't know, but there's only one way to find out. Open up your box, there should be 2 unique slots. The one not in use by your graphics card is the ISA slot. Baboof!

Not true rob, again you've managed to give someone totally wrong advice....

Motherboards are all designed differently, so the ISA slot could be anywhere. The key thing is that its the biggest slot on there.

Yes, but it's still the only unique slot without a graphics card in it, ditship...

Also, I doubt it can be "anywhere", seeing as the generally have to be accessable through the back. Modems have ports, y'know.

My PC's got AGP, PCI and ISA slots. I agree with the view that ISA are the longest ones, and on my mobo, the ISA slots are nearest ground level (given that its a mini-tower). Not that I'm using it (or them, can't remember), so it would depend what the motherboard is.

Mine's the lowest one too. It's strange though, the ISA slots are huge but this modem uses about half of it.

Rob what are you talking about, PCI and ISA slots can but put in any order whatsoever. My motherboard doesnt even have ISA, thats how outdated it is..

As for the post about the only free unique one not with a graphics card in it, maybe it was me but, that made no sense whatsoever.

I'm not saying it's the lowest one. That was the Doc's idea. I was just commenting mine's the lowest too.
