*Cries and Rubs tears*

Every time I turn it on GTA3 or Vice City is in the drive and every time I put my hand near the DVD drive it shouts at me and tells me to move away. I tried putting another game in the drive but it wouldn't load and I got the error message:

345671NOGTADVDRECOGNISED14628394

Shall I take it back to the shop or shall I just leave it alone?!

Disclamier:

I and anyone who shares my house does not own a PS2 console or takes delight in how Sony ripped me off 1 and a half years a go. If PS2 owners are angry I am sorry as it is just a front for an Eternal Darkness thread and what it is all about. If you are offended in anyway I will give you the complaints address, however it was made in good fun and the propeitor (being me) is very sorry for offending any devout PS2 fans.

Anyway, that aside, I am trying to understand what Eternal Darkness is all about?! My friend who sold his GameCube over Christmas leant me a Video he had reviewing and previewing GameCube games. I have watched the Video and a few games impressed me, yet after reading numerous reviews of Eternal Darkness the video footage doesn't match up with what I seem to read. IGN said that magic was used yet it was an adventure game like Resident Evil, does anyone else think this is strange? The game looks excellent and it comes highly recommended from many reviewers (who claim it to be the greatest game they have ever played) yet I can't seem to weigh up the reviews with the in game footage and screen shots that I have seen around th internet and on video format.

The game looks more like an RPG with adventure elements and a bit of Warcraft magic mixed in and amongst the action. I am getting Resident Evil next and then I am going to get Eternal Darkness and Super Mario: Sunshine but in the mean time I would like to know more about this game. Are there 12 characters to choose from along with numerous ways of approaching the game? Any additional information would be appreciated, thanks!

Does that mean that Gamecube games are a lot better or do you mean that the PS2 games are better? I know the answer ;)

Well that depends, I've played through Resi twice so far (and halfway through again). but I've completed all 3 paths on ED, so overall I've probably spent about 35-40 hours on ED, and around 15-20 for Resi.

IGN said it was a lot longer than Resident Evil but they didn'y say how much longer. I will see for myself as I am hoping to have both within 3 weeks :)

Four times longer...?

Resi took me over 10 hours to complete first time and ED took me about 20 hours (not sure if it was just over 20 or just under 20...)

I think you musta been very good at Resi or not so good at ED...

You choose at the end of the first chapter.

Depending on which artificat you choose to take, basically it decides which Ancient you are up against, which then determines the type of enemies you will get etc. As each Ancient has their own minions.

3 different paths? I read this on IGN and they said you will want to complete it using all 3 as they are so different! Do you choose the path before playing or does it happen during the game?

Eternal Darkness is my second favourite Nintendo Gamecube title.

Your grandfather has died... killed... horribly... and you want to find out why.

You being Alex, a buffy look-alike. After finding the tome of eternal darkness you notice the chapters are missing. Locating the chapters requires similar resi evil puzzles etc... each chapter is a new level... in each of these levels you play as a new character. It tells the story of your character's fight against the original rulers of the earth. This complex story slowley explains itself over the individual chapters and each character has some part to play with the downfall of the baddies...

You can grab weapons... the best are usual swords, and locate which part of the zombies and other baddies bodies you can remove. You also learn the ancient magic system which when you magic bar is full enough you can cast various spells you pick up that can give you a shield or reveal invisability. It is a clever system. You also have the sanity effects which are always nice and add a scary touch.

It is about four times longer than RE with just one play through and as brilliant as the best Nintendo games.

alright?
