We thought that the Nintendo 64 would become so popular but it did.
We knew that the N64 was powerful but we had no idea what the public would think of it.
They loved the N64.
Probably one of the reasons most people wanted a N64 is was so that they could get Goldeneye, one of the best shoot-em-ups of all time.
The N64 had a whole army of developers banging at their front door hoping to make some money.
And make some money they did.
They would've made more if Nintendo hadn't used used carts, but still the developers made some impressive profits.
Not as much as the developers who sided with Sony though.
They Sony Playstation games flooded the market almost drowning the N64 games.
They were cheaper too, mainly because Sony used disks for they Playstation.
They would've made even more money if they had RareWare on their sides but Rare stuck with Nintendo and made them and Nintendo millions.
Even though the Playstation isn't as powerful as the N64 it's overwhelming popularity saw it through to today.
Even today the Sony Playstation is one of the most popular consoles around.
In order for Sony to continue their good fortunes they needed a new approach.
The answer?
The Sony Playstation 2.
This console has to be the most popular around at the moment but it might not last long as the GameCube is due for arrival anytime soon.
Some of the games that were a huge success on the PS1 made an appearance on the PS2.
One of the most Successful games on the PS1 that made it onto the PS2 is the Final Fantasy games.
Final Fantasy 11 is already proving a successes on the PS2 and I'm sure it will continue being a huge success.
One often wonders when Sony's next appearance will be.
The PS3 perhaps? Who knows but I think that they're happy enough with the PS2 for the time being.
See you next time for another episode of: The Console Battle Field!
