Firstly, consoles have severely increased in power- the PSX being the first console to completely destroy the idea that PCs would always be one step ahead of the game.
Consoles have stolen many of the PC's greatest games and genres, leaving a precious few exclusive to the PC. Of course FPS, RTS and simulation games are an up for PC gamers, but not much more can be added to the list.
Most importantly though, the popularity of consoles is immmense. Why would developers not want to tap this market over the PC?
And now, to cap it all off, Microsoft- the big boy of the PC world- has released its Xbox. Based on PC architecture it is a clear invitation for PC developers to jump ship. Add to that MS's buying of PC developers Bungie and a few others, and the future looks bleak.
So, where will PC gaming go from here?
Well, the attraction of PC games always used to be that they were simply the best, most ranging games around. Now they're not. Instead they are a highly specialist hobby- the price of a decent PC with regular upgrade making the market seem impossible to crack.
The games too have become more specialist- narrowing into very select genres groups. Surely it is enenitable that the consoles will get these games in time. Ok, so they may need a couse and keyboard, but it'll happen with the new age console-PC set-top-boxes.
So, is the day of the PC gamers over? I think it's been looking that way for years now.

Blah blah blah, I've had this conversation a thousand times before. Stop talking b******s, you can't possibly know how good I am with a joypad, considering for over a year I've ONLY used a joypad for FPSs.
Operation Flashpoint
Wolfenstein
best version of Max Payne
all the best RTS games
multi player Half-Life, Quake etc
The Sims
the list goes on.
So the p.c still has great games, whether or not more titles of the future will be released on the more powerful consoles instead of the p.c remains to be seen.
The PC has brilliant games available... including FPS not forgetting the clans involved!

Games like Medal of honour that i am really looking forward to will probably end up ported to another format anyway. Its a shame really.

lol at Turbo's comeback...
But I think you miss the point manuntplayerbloke...
It used to be the case that the PC was the best, and indeed ONLY place for many genres of games. That has since changed.
Halo has proved that console FPS games can stand up to PC ones... by the next gen of consoles they could well have completely overtaken the PC versions.
Games like Gran Turismo are showing that consoles have the power to produce simulationn games up to the spec of PC ones.
The only genres that have yet to be untapped are flight sims (lol!), and RTS games... bu I'm sure they'll come eventually with online play.

True, the console ones are often better.
