I have been told that I have to redo my English Lit A-level coursework and I have chosen to do the coursework on Lord of the rings is this a wise idea?

What does everyone think of the film I thought It was amazing and I cant wait to see it again (without the moaning gf next to me).

Death of a Saleman is a good idea. Lots of stuff in there about futility of the so called 'american dream', a theme that has been explored quite a bit recently in movies.

Playboy of the Western World was another play I studied that may be worth looking into.

If you're talking about AS coursework then what you're saying sounds quite strange. I did mine on light imagery in 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof'.
Sounds boring? More so than you could possibly imagine..

Anyway, my point is that as a class we went through 'Cat' in intricate detail before doing the coursework. We weren't told what to write, but we became familiar enough with the play, and literary opinions of it to write a good piece of coursework. Personally I do not see how you can hope to write a piece of coursework on LOTR because it is:
a) too long
b) too complicated
c) you haven't been taught it

I would suggest you choose a play or a short book on which lots of information is readily available. I would recommend "Death of a Salesman" by Arthur Miller, as it's filled with coursework-worthy material and you can find a lot of help in study-guides and on the internet. You could also try "Catcher in the Rye" by JD Salinger, which is a short book and interesting. Or "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald, which is even shorter.

I would severely advise against writing on LOTR.

Amazing book. Amazing film - I can't see why all the people who had not read it were suprised at the end - what did they expect - Frodo and Sam to get to Mordor in 2/3 hours?

They've heard its an epic, and you cant squeeze an epic into 2/3 hours of quality film!

Still, its a great film, but you need to have read the book to appreciate the world, its peoples and the little bits in between.

I agree with Goatboy. Your spelling, at least, is truly evil.

I think that Lord of the rings is a wicked film but i didn't go a second time, Its a shame the best evil character has to be Gollum but you don't get to see his hole body and I think that you should if he was following them. The best Non evil charchter has to be lagalas the cool quick arrow throwing elf who can't die of old age becuase he is im-mortal. But i don't see why they let ffrodo carry the ring he is punny and perfetic he couldn't survive all on his own which is where we left Frodo and Sam heading towards that big mountain that belongs to Moordor.
Also another shame is they've made all of the films but only showing the first one now but the second one around christmas time. Damkn them.

Also I think I would be better at being the evil demon

If you've just seen the movie and haven't read the book, I don't know. It's a complex piece, and enjoyable to those who enjoy such things, but it's not the same as the movie. I'd read it first.
