I know that this season is supposed to be Sir Alex Ferguson's last year, and I know that he's supposed to be retiring and moving behind the scenes at Old Trafford, but am I the only one who feels that Sir Alex should call it a day on what has been a sensational managerial carerr at United???

There are several reasons as to why he should go ahead with his managerial-retirement plans, and there are also reasons as to why he should wait one more year.

Familly is one of the main reasons as to why Fergie wants to call it a day. After all, how can anyone negklect their familly?? Part of being a familly is spending time together, with each other, and to treat each member with care. But how could he do that if he's off around Europe every Wednesday night?? Or has to travel down south on a Friday night, and come back home in a fowl mood after a bad result?? And I bet the Fergusons' have seen quite a few of those this season!

He is 60, and maybe he feels his age is finally getting to him, and he feels that it won't be as good for his health. The Gerard Houllier situation gives the evidence, and Fabio Capello has also issued a warning. But Bobby Robson, doesn't care, he's almost 70!! And Newcastle are doing better than ever! But that may be because he's a stronger character, and can shut off all of the pressures of football management.

But why should he stay?? For one reason, under Sir Alex, United have had great success in every area in such a short space of time. He's even been nighted by the queen after winning 'The Treble' (hence the 'Sir' Alex), and has brought more success to the club than Matt Busby and his 'Babes' could've ever brought to United.
Things just won't be the same next season without him. A new manager does mean a different, fresher approach, but what if the board appoints the wrong man, and he upsets half the team, causing United even more problems than what they've faced this season!! But Fergie knows the players and staff well, and could keep the seat and the team warm for a new man.

Speaking of this season, you can hardly call it one to end on, can you! If things carry on the way they're currently going, we could end up with nothing this season!! And that has happened for a good few years now! At the start of the season, Beckham and co. said their ambition for the season was to win EVERYTHING! Fergie really would appreciate it but it just isn't gunna happen. But if he was to stay on one more year, the door's are open again! And the goals are more visable! A high-note like that would really be something to end on!

There is a lot of speculation over who the new man will be, with several big-name candidates being named. Martin O'Neil is a firm favourite, but he has said that he wants to stay loyal to his contract with Celtic. And that contract expires in the summer of 2003 (next summer)! And if Fergie was to stay one more year, United could line up the enthusiastic O'Neil for a free transfer next summer! He would be staying loyal to his contract and see it out, like he wants to, but there's nothing that says he can't leave at the end of it!! So you see how it could all work out well for United, if our top man stays on for just one more year.

In my opinion, Fergie should stay for just one year, then he can go off and do whatever he wants with all his money and feelings of what he's achieved. And i'll be happy just as long as he stays one more year to finnish on a perfect note, and the right replacement is brought in.

But did you see the match??? Can you blame him???
I'd have done the same, if not worse!! And Fergie, Capello and co. would also reacted in a similar way!
Can you honestly say that any manager would be able to just sit back and relax after poor descisions like that??
Well, maybe if they're topping the group by miles!

I doubt it, These players dont want to be playing for no British Manager. Remember when there was a chance of Kluivert signing for us? He said the only English club he would sign for was Arsenal! Most likely to the Wenger factor.

And half of Europe probably think O'neil is a nutter anyway, remember how he reacted after that Juventus game in Turin!

I still think he should stay one more year, even if we do win the league this year, it just isn't enough for a good fairwell.

And I also don't think it'd matter if Kluivert and co. have/haven't heard of O'Neil, i'm sure their money-grabbing agents would get the info on him and his records! Then they'd see what a truley brilliant manager he is!!

yea stay 1 more year fergie you haven't totally destroyed Man United this season how about finishing it off next?

as for the new manager i'd like either capello or van gaal to take the helm. they can persuade the big name stars to come to Man Utd which o'neill can't. in fact i doubt if people like kluivert, davids, ronaldo, hofland, roberto carlos, figo, rivaldo etc etc have even heard of o'neill

I doubt he will stay on another year. Only reason for him staying on will be if United dont find a replacment. But i'm sure United have allready got someone lined up.

I think Van Gaal would be a good man for the job. If we want the best plyers in Europe, we need a foriegn manager to persuade them to move.
