Ok, it will have it's downers, like the animated movie was a complete stinker (IMHO) and if this recieves the same treatment as the film, FF may be flushed down the hollywood loo. The first twenty minutes were stunning. Then the plot went "gay" and they just repeated the same locations again and again. Very dull. But also awesome-looking - I shall definitely buy the DVD. A lot would have to be edited out, but there are many irrelevant scenes that needn't be in there to keep the plot flowing seemlessy. Take out the sub-games, a lot of locations like Rocket Town. Cid, Yuffie, Vincent and Cait Sith aren't really important characters, so they needn't feature as characters in the movie.
The bear minimum local areas are:
Midgar
Junon
Nihilith
Crater
Nibelheim
Temple of the Ancients
Northern Crater
Midel (In Cloud's dream sequence he visits Midel)
Northern Crater (2nd time around)
If it were a TV series, you could put everything in - the characters and the locations, but it would take a hell of a lot of hard work! Considering that Yuffie's hometown and the flying circus thing (been a while since I played) would also be good onscreen, TV series may be a good move to take. Take into account you'd have to have at least 30 minutes in Midgar at the beginning - already a large chunk of screentime is taken. Also, what about Barrett's hometown and Dyne - worth inclusion? A trip to the Gold Saucer wouldn't be out of place, but it would have to be the bit where Cloud goes on a date with Yuffie (thus putting the hidden characters back in). Maybe a fight with Ultima Weapon would be good, with a few summons, Knights of the Round anyone?
The cynical ones among you will say it's never going to happen. This is a fair comment, and if we look at it from their point of view, it's a very worthy statement. For a start, you can't compress 20 hours of story into two hours (TV series?), and the only reason we really cared about FF7 was because we were a faintly active participant. The story wouldn't be as good if you weren't the star. Also, halfway through, it all of a sudden forgets it's own plot, and the motivations and interactions of some of its key characters, and turns into eleven different stories, before finally getting round to stepping on Kefka. Obviously, they would have to thicken the characters and plot up a bit.
The general characters and setting would make for an excellent movie. Although, I think the general concensus is that a TV series would be better. With a different locale each week (a la pokemon), that way the likes of Red Mountain and Rocket Town could be included. I agree, it will probably never happen, but it is a complete waste of material. The PS1 didn't do it justice. Sephiroth is one of the best characters created ever - not just in the world of video games. And the apocalyptic ending was just perfect.
Is anybody with me?
(And just to try and prolong thread life) How would you convert FF7 into a 2 1/2 our movie?
Thanks for reading,
Shaun
1) You copied.
2) You made a whimpering apology and then copied again.
3) You were banned and came back.
4) You were banned again and came back again.
5) You still copied.
5 easy steps. I can't make it any easier to understand than that. Oh wait, maybe I can. Yeah, I know. Step guide:
1) You're a t**t!
Even though a film based on FF7 would be kinda cool!
:)
Is that nice enough for you?
Are you ever gonna get the mesassage that people on this don't like you, do you really expect them to reply with nice comments to your most likely copied topics?
Take a hint Shaneo.

Why are you constantly "dissing" my topics? It'll only result in an argument. If you have nothing nice to say, I'd rather you not say it.

I KNOW you don't. I know you copy decent topics, though.
You don't KNOW that I copied, Gaz. How could you possibly know whether or not I copy a topic, without sufficient proof? I wrote it, and that is that!

I'm sure there are others who haven't seen Chasing Amy or Mallrats, do you shout at them? I doubt it...

Do you still fail to recognise that I can write decent topics?
You gimp.
