Recently I have been playing on advance wars and have gathered the taste for strategy games. I would like to buy a game that is affordable and good for beginners, as I intend on buying American conquest once it has been released. Because of this I would like to buy a strategy game for the PC, which has a similar control, set up as American conquest so I can get some practice in before hand.

So can anyone recommend a game that is suits my speciation? If so I would like to know the price of the game (try and keep it under £20) and the shop it is located at if it is not in SR’s archive.

Cheers

The Command & Conquer series is a good place to start, as it was the first strategy game series that got me into strategy gaming, and it eases you in nicely to the genre.

Others I'd recommend are, Starcraft, Total Annihilation, Z, Warcraft 3 and when you're strategy skills are improved, Shogun or Medieval: Total War.

You cant go wrong with Red Alert 2.

You might be able to pick up Warcraft 3 for under £20 on eBay.

Cossacks Gold edition? I think its about £20 from SR and it's pretty much the prequal to American Conquest. Made by the same people in a very similar style anyway.

Red Alert 2 is a good game to start off with in my view, its fun, simple and great to play online, you can get it with the Add-on pack (Yuri's revenge) in most highstreet stores for around £20-30, great value for money!
