The current balance in my Natwest student account is £2000, and I owe accomodation fees to the sum of £1900. This gives me £100 to live on for ten weeks. Not possible, since I have to buy my own food.
No problem, I'll apply for one of those excellent interest free overdrafts Natwest do for students.
It went something like this....
"I'm sorry, your application was turned down. There isn't enouch activity in your account to build up a record of you."
"So I can't have the overdraft that is given out unquestioningly if you apply for it at the same time you open your account?"
"Yes, I'm afraid so."
"Because they don't trust me or know enough about me now that I've had the account for two years without going overdrawn, rather than for two minutes?"
"You can apply again in few weeks or so when some more transactions have been made, the refulsal isn't final."
"Right, thanks for your help..."
But wait, it gets better. Not only do I have £100 to live on for ten weeks, but I'm paying the standing order for our telly rental, too. £33.95 per month, which means on the tenth of Feb, I won't be able to pay. Can you guess what happens if I don't pay?
So... the solution.
Having hunted around a bit, I found my other natwest account with about £100 in. I've now set the two accounts to transfer £1 to each other twice a day for the next month. Now we'll see who doesn't have a large enough bloody transaction history....
I was in the states last year and its not much fun when the bank balls things up.....
They turned down my application for a 3rd party mandate so my parents could control my account to send out my loan money.
They turned down my application for a credit card which they offered me in the bank, needless to say after a few calls and a determination to speak to the bank manager he okayed the card.
For reasons they can't explain to me they forgot to send me a new debit card, so when I tried to use it in america it wouldn't give me cash.. grrr
Anyway I asked for an overdraft facility (I suspect I have less money going into my account) and they gave it to me.
I asked to increase the ammount and they asked "how much do you want?"
If I were you I'd go back in there and ask again, maybe ask to see the manager to tell him why you need it.

They'll be complaining that "each transaction was not of a sufficient amount" next, you just watch. :-D

Stylish and classy!
To really get to know bankers, say bankers with your hand in your mouth. Evil, satanic, nasty people with nothing better to do than rob you of your hard-earned, charge you for fun and screw you at every opportunity.
It's sick-inducing that society depends on them.
