The date has been set for the release of the GameCube on our shores, 3rd May 2002. Yes, that's the 3rd, not the fifth. Even Nintendo aren't silly enough to release their new console when the shops are closed.
"I think X-Box will be better." Yeah? Prove it!
The GC looks like it's got a better lineup of games ready for release at the moment. Plus, it's more hyped, which will help it to sell at the start. I was thinking it was just the games that mattered, oh well! Seems the hype is working then. Even better is Resident Evil on the 24th May (apparently), but no sign of Monkey Ball in the release schedule :( This is probably because only about five people in the world have even heard of the beautiful Super Monkey Ball, while every idiot in the world is waiting for another Resident Evil sequel which will be the same as all the others but with better graphics ;)
Hell, that's democracy for you. Or something.
Only 150 quid? Unless I see the price stated as exactly 150 English pounds I won't believe that is a fact. Infact I reckon it's coming out at 249 pounds as well as 249 euros, exchange rate or not. Hope I'm wrong though. Note: That was one of my infamous "controversy stirrers" that you should get accustomed to ;) It's expected to be £200 in the UK (from general internet rumours, not any official source). If it's true, then it's dead. If they could bring it in at around £120 (or even, dare I say it, £100 ;)), it would be better, but humans being the funny lot we are, the reaction would probably be "That's cheap, what's wrong with it?"
The PS2 will probably drop price when the X Box comes out anyway, and then the GC will be working hard to make up lost time. I thought the point was to make a cheap (ish) console as it didn't have a DVD player (except for that rather sexy Panasonic model, yum ;)). Damn, Rogue Leader and Super Smash Bros were looking so good ;) Why should it be dead? The GC is much loved over the Yanky side and in Japan too: Much love for the GC. Many have waited 2 years+ for this moment and now it's only a few months away. Much loved it may be, but there's a world of difference between $200 and £200. The GC NEEDS some sort of advantage over the PS2; in the same way as videogaming was once "playing Nintendo", it is now "playing PlayStation", or all consoles being referred to as a PS. If this advantage is price (on Nintendo's past form it sure as hell won't be the marketing), then so be it.
Personally I've wanted one for a while myself, but if I'm looking at whacking that much out then sod it, I'll stick with the PS2, at least THAT'S going to still have a good selection of games on the shop shelf for the next three years. Probably.
£200 for a gamecube £350 for an X Box. Hmmmmmm...
X Box, a celeron 733 with 64mb memory and a 10 gig HDD with GF3 custom graphics (a custom PC in a friggin box) made by a company that releases unstable buggy software and apparently will be VERY easy to emulate.
OR a console by a worthy, well known company that usually gets it right first time, which has a custom ATI chip (that outperforms the Rad + GF3 apparently) and it's a lot more aesthetichally pleasing than the clump that is X-Box. Nintendo "usually get it right first time"? Did I just say that? ;) But as game producers Nintendo are essential for anyone interested in gaming, and Rare are still exclusive to Ninty, so basically you've gotta get a GameCube ;)
Screw it, I'm just gonna buy 'em all.... what else are my brother's student loans for after all? ;)

I don't believe they listed them all, did they?
I was a little disappointed to not hear what the RRP of the games would be, maybe that info will go live on the site after Monday.
But still, anyone trying to decide between the GCN and the Xbox should really be looking at these games, and seeing if they're to taste, rather than thinking that all of those specifications we keep hearing actually mean anything.
