As an owner of a Playstation and a N64 I was saddened to find that I would have to wait nearly 8 months after a Japanese launch till I could get my hands on a Next Generation console from each of the Companys. I am now delighted to hear that the X-Box will have a world-wide launch date. This is brilliant news and a trademark of the media giant that is Microsoft. The proffesionalism they showed withe Offwice and Windows that have made them the huge success they are seems to have infiltrated into the X-Box. Also there games will have worldwide launch dates, and the games may be available to all consoles, depending on the Publisher. This is a great display in giving the public what it wants hopefully the other games companies will see the wisdom in this and start to treat English gamers with a bit more value.

The reasons above could well swing widely in Microsofts favour as they enter the gaming world, with Sony blundering away with the media, Microsoft could well take over an important share of the market! All they need is to keep making more decisions like this and the rest will be floundering.

Calculators were quite good when they were launched, pocket ones anyway...
Still i would like that AMT officially replaces the word "English" in his post to "British" because all British citizens suffer the same!
I think that Microsoft will heavily test their console, and you have to remember that Microsoft haven't got a reputation for hardware, as they do software y'see, so don't have low expectations just because of some of their software exploits. And anyway, have Sega or Sony or Nintendo ever made an entire Operating System and dealt with compatibility issues on it? have they?
Of course low expectations will be good because then you will be impressed if they make a great launch, whereas with high expectations you have of the others, you are more likely to be dissapointed. I expect Microsoft will be very careful to get everything right before release of their console, or else there would be little point in having it (consoles are harder to update and all).

I would just like to go on saying that the Dreamcast was the most sucessfull launch of any hardware ever.

What annoys me the most is that Rareware (A British brewed company) brings out the games in America (full of underserving nob shafts, well a lot of them are...) first. WHY? I know Nintendo have control over production, but surely even a Worldwide release for Rare games would be good. We have to wait about 2 months before it reaches us.

A worldwide launch of a console means that everyone gets the same teething problems at the same time which, knowing Microsoft, will be software bugs more than anything! Look at their past software; Windows for a start had plenty of rewrites. Also, there could be problems with worldwide shortages rather than just local ones, leaving MS with more problems.
Sony's problems with the playstation in Japan means that we will (hopefully) be getting a better version of the console than them.
