They're all wrong, but i do have a theory...
Second-guessing nintendo's every move isn't turning out to be the most successful passtime for me, but one last time. Because i think it makes sense.
Scenario 1:
Nintendo plan to announce that their console will be available on may 5th, 3 months down the line, at the milia games convention, early february. Good idea, everyone will be interested and it'll arouse a lot of interest.
Change of plan. They decide to dissipate all this interest, by announcing the details 9/10am on a monday slightly earlier (when a lot of the older end of the market wil be at work, and the younger at school. Just to up the tension, ii guess). Why? I guess to get people talking even more before the milia showcase. Still not sure about that myself.
Oops. The site that was supposed to show the announcement has now released it early. Not that smart of them, really. Unless it was the plan, but i honestly can't see why they would do that.
Scenario 2:
Nintendo plan to announce the release date for the cube at milia. Not sure when though.
Woah, they realise there's a problem. They can't tell the retailers around europe too much about the launch until after the announcement without a huge leak being inevitable, and ruining the announcement's effect, and the date they had planned simply doesn't leave enough time for retailers to prepare for the day of launch, or for the word to spread.
Only 2 options: Move the carefully planned date backwards, or bring the announcement forwards.
Of course, when we're talking about a launch date 3 months away, moving the announcement of the date about a week either way doesn't make much difference. Scenario 2 only works if it's a lot sooner than that.
Now, a few days before the official announcement they have the most absurd leak known to man. They effectively make the announcement early THEMSELVES.
Given the lengths they've already gone to so as to prevent a leak, it almost defies belief. Almost.
Of course, that assumes we believe them. The other option is that they actually aren't a bunch of drunk incompetents, who decide their marketing strategy on whether it's heads or tails, but are planning to create even more hype by catching us all off guard, and making a different announcement on monday. They plan to shock us all with an announcement that blows may 5th out of the water, and sets the hype machine to full gear without a chance of it burning out until long after launch date is a happy memory to cube lovers throughout the continent.
What do you think?
If men in black suits pull up outside your house, make a run for it... Nintendo have friends in high places...
I'm in your sitaution!
I didn't see this or yours until just now, and yet i made a very similar post too!!:)
*The Cigarrette Smoking Man enters the room, and pulls out a silenced pistol. Sibs looks in horror*
"Why?" Sibs questions.
"You know too much" comes the gruff answer, as the man throws the cigarrette end to the floor and stamps it out.
*Sibs slumps back in the chair, but as his life drains away, he just hopes his message has spread far enough for the people to know... for them to know of ... The (European) Nintendo Conspiracy...*
