Hi, i've recently purchased my x-box live starter kit. I also have broadband with one'tel who have assured me that their service is compatible with X-box. Problem is their modem they supply is USB, no worries i thought i'll just set ICS on my PC and run it through there. No chance, soon as i turn on UCS my modem stops working.
So i decided to buy a new modem, adsl, prefrably with USB and ethernet out(but id settle for just ethernet) and its own power source so i dont have to have my PC every time i play, but i just cant find one, How are you guys doing it? what modem are you using? is there anyone out there who can help me.

I have a router, but the problem is, my setup goes as such.....phone line to modem (which is USB only and takes it power form the pc, so it wont work unless plugged directlty into PC)..........now, my router is ethernet only and even if it had a USB router i cant power the modem. In order to set up the router i need to connect to the internet (or so it says on the setup guide) and in order to do that i need my ICS off because i cant connect when its on. and when its off i cant detect the router ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

so simple answer (ha ha) get a new modem and cut the pc out of the equation, but as you so rightfully said a modem with ethernet is hard to find, i'll deal with setup when (if) i find one thats compatible. There must be others out there with a similar setup, surelly not every one is using ICS.

Im running windows millenium, and i cant think of any good reason why my internet stops working when i flip ICS on, but it does and there's no properties to play with so im stumpped there. Im guessing my modem is conflicting with my network card, the cards built into the mother board and i dont really want to start messing with the bios just to intall another, i had a friend who knows more than me have a play with it and he sayd the current card works fine.

Well just buy a Router if you actually dont want your PC on at the same time as the XBox. A ADSL modem with ethernet is hard to find, and will be alot harder to set up, as you will need to tell your XBox the settings to use to actually dial into your ADSL account.

Why would your modem stop working with ICS? What Windows have you got? As ICS only works on Win 98 2nd Edition and any other version newer.
