Medieval: Total War - Viking Invasion

======================================

I've been playing Medieval: Total War for a while now, and one bloody addictive strategy game I can tell you. It's probably no surprise then that it, like Shogun: Total War is getting an expansion, and just as the Shogun had the Mongol Invasion of Japan, Medieval will have the Viking Invasion of dear old England. Here's a summary of what will appear on this new expansion:

"Viking Invasion challenges players to control eight new factions, including the Vikings themselves, the Saxons, Scots, Irish, Welsh and Picts, and embark on a campaign to dominate the British Isles. With a wealth of new historical heroes, players can lead a range of new units into battle, including Viking Berserkers, Saxon Huscarles and Fyrdmen, while conducting sieges enhanced by the introduction of flaming arrows and boiling oil.

Medieval: Total War - Viking Invasion introduces new features that will be welcomed by fans of the franchise Players can now plan reinforcements and scout enemy formations before taking to the field from a new pre-battle screen. In addition, there will be new playable factions and a new heavy weapon in the shape of the fearsome Organ Gun"

A good selection of improvements there, and I for one am interested in seeing just how much more improved the castle sieges will become with the new introduction of flaming arrows and boiling oil.

Rome: Total War

================

A full blow sequel to Medieval, though this time concentrating on one of the biggest empires of all time. Though there is an article about this game in the latest PCG, I haven't been able to read it so can't say what improvements will be included this time round.

Still, I suspect an improved graphics engine, better diplomacy options and a much wider selection of unit's will be included, but apart from that I don't know much about this new game.

Anyway, I'm glad to see that the Total War series is still going strong, and I'll be keeping an eye out for these two games in the near future.

Yeah, A.I. would be something the game needs to improve on.

I'd also like to see a vastly improved diplomacy option so it will be easier to talk and deal with you're allies, and do things like open trade routes and get them to help you to fight your enemies. The problem I've had with the last two games is diplomacy never really amounts to sending emissaries all over the place to make new allies. It's something that needs to be added to I think.

What I would like to see is a vastly improved AI for the game. In both the campaign map and on the battlefield, the AI is awful on the hardest setting, and winning is no real challenge once you've gotten yourself a nice foothold somewhere. It's a shame really, because I'd still be playing the game otherwise.
