In my opinion yes. It's music you can actually enjoy listening to. Bands like new found glory may be a bit poppy but the melodies are uplifting.
It's not as 'shocking' as old punk and will probably never make as big a mark on music history but I like it.

MikeAll does your name refer to the band 'All'? The one that the Descendents became after milo went to collage (when he really went, not the album!) and they got the different vocalist?

Just curious...

yeah, Modern Punk is good. Maybe bands like NFG, Blink and Sum41 are out there, getting big, but for every poppy punk band that is out there, there are tons more that uphold the way punk was. The political lyrics, fast playing, and non compromising attitude that was there still is, you've just got to scratch beneath the surface of the nice radio friendly poppy bands to reach it. Bands such as Bad Religion, who are Punk Veterans, and legends, are still going, Pennywise are still evolving, and are becoming more political with every release, and there are so many other bands out there. Refused created some of the greatest and most boundry pushing Hardcore of recent times with 'The Shape of Punk to Come' and Fugazi continue to innovate in the post-hardcore genre. And with many good punk bands also getting some limelight (Jimmy Eat World, AFI, perhaps even bad religion with their single 'Broken' coming out in the UK sometime).

Punk may have seemed like it was going to self destruct countless times, but it has survived. It has been reinvented, but there are still bands who make 'roots' punk like the stuff in the 70's and there are bands who have pioneered a new sound, that remains punk, but pushes the boundries.
