THE THUMBNAIL VIEW - that is such a pointless function. It's been on Mac for longer than i can remember. Does that feature it really empower people?
The Mac has musical menu's as well. Yep run the mouse up and down a menu and you can have the musical scale go up & down on your speakers. Do I leave this switched on, emmm, no. Sorry, its fun for about 5mins, then you get sick of it.

I have xp, it's not what it's cracked up to be(bad). It's good, but not great, it doesn't have Microsoft Publisher!

All you people here who are criticizing XP, and making up your "oh-so-hilarious" phrases that begin with X, probably don't even have XP!

I use it a lot, and I find it very practical indeed.

The new layout is pretty good, looks a damn site better than 98 or ME etc.

It's a lot easier to access you files, and there are hundreds of little things that top it off quite well eg. the new Thumbnail view system.

If you use it properly, don't screw about with it, don't download virii, and other bugs onto it then it's great.

So nah!

The only answer is yes - USB and Firewire are infinitely superior to serial and parallel connections in robustness, flexibility, ease of use, power, speed and cost. My parallel port zip drive cripples any computer its plugged into. USB is just a dream in comparison.

Most of the people in this world who diss Microsoft haven't experience the world outside the Windows womb. The sort of drooling retard newbie who names a post "Microsoft XP" would run screaming and crying from the likes of Linux. To Red-face: Microsoft software is the ONLY reason you're able to use a computer, they've spent countless hundreds of millions of pounds on developing software than makes an inherently difficult tool simple enough for a moron like you to cope. Windows XP is an amazing piece of software, if you knew the first thing about computers you'd know this.

Here's a challenge for you: if you don't like Windows XP, install Linux instead. It's free and does virtually everything Windows does.

Yeah, we had one of the first iMacs ever out - about 250Mb hard drive (ha ha ha).
Now we've got a new one - got it about September, it's a bit of a sore issue.

I thought we'd get one of the newest G4 ones, with all the gubbins, but as it turns out (blummin' cheap skate parents) we got a Graphite G3. It's not the best, but a hell of a lot better than the old one, 40Gb hard drive this time : )
The only problem is this painfully slow 56k dial-up I'm on. Again, cheap parents prevent any chance of a Broadband connection.

Q: Do we need USB and FireWire?

The easy answer would be yes - everything has one or the other of these, and you can connect up so many various devices like MP3 players and digital camera's.

But why couldn't Serial, Parallel, and SCSI be used? I mean, I have a SCSI cd burner on this very computer - and it's fine. I know some one who has an older digital camera, and it connect's to their PC via a Serial cable. So the older connections could handle the job just as well it looks like. The real reason for things like USB and FireWire is much more basic, it's £££££££££££££££££££££.

I think it works like this. A company, want to make people buy their products. There's nothing wrong with their existing range of products, so they have to invent some thing new - which does the same thing as their old stuff. Put this so called new product on to the market, and people buy it - because it's new and they don't have anything like that (little do they know). If you can get other people to build other equipment that also just has the new "thing" on it, all the better. One won't work without the other, so you "force" people into an upgrade. After a short while, heypresto! the money starts rolling in. And all from a product that only duplicates what an older product did, and wasn't even needed.

XP may be Xtra Problems, but in fairness it's a lot better than ME - Muppet Edition...
