I've been online for well over a year now. It's sometimes fun, but vastly overrated.

Because it's a totally new experience. Imagine someone who has only ever read stories in books, and never seen moving images on film. Then take them to your local IMAX cinema and watch their reaction.

Going from offline gaming to online gaming is a little like that, except there's generally more swearing going on.

PSO on the Dreamcast I never had any problems with, it was, I think, the first console game I ever played online, and it absolutely rocked. Having said that, I tended to play it offline more because it was just as much fun in that mode too.

Online gaming for consoles is a huge development, one which should enrich the gaming experience for many people.

As for Sony PS2 getting it I reckon the end of this year would be a good guess, I can't really envisage Sony Europe getting their act together before then.

Why does online gaming matter so much to people? I think they like the actual concept of it rather than the benefits of it. At the moment we've got a long way to go before it's fully embraced and that also includes the X-BOX. Broadband is simply too pricey at the moment whereas our "friends" across the sea have lower dial up and subscription charges. Living on an island is expensive!

Should be good for about 1% of the UK population then. I can't get the signal (like many people), and it's still 2 much money to get broadband installed & monthly fee's. BTW, I bet PS2 online wont have web access (just like Xbox). A lot of money just for online games.
