There are so many great bands out there, but some of them I haven't heard any of you speak of. Ok, it's down to preference, fair enough, but that's an entirely different story. In this brief post, I will talk about two bands which deserve some recognition.
Alkaline Trio
Alkaline Trio are one of the best bands on the punk circuit today, touring with the likes of Blink 182, among others. Having recently released their album "From Here To Infirmary" (which I have purchased), they have had two hit singles: "Stupid Kid", and "Private Eye". They were on Radio 1 a few weeks back, but they still fail to get noticed.
Silverchair
Silverchair have been around considerably longer than the former group, and have earned a great reputation in America. They first formed by writing a song for a competition, which had a music contract as the prize, and they released their "Frogstomp" album soon after. After a lengthly recluse, they pulled "Freak Show" from the recesses, with the hit single "Freak". They are working on their next album and their latest single, "Anthem For The Year 2000" is out now!

Agreed. If AT keep going the way they are going, they will be superstars in a few years time. Also, they are on an independant record label, so don't expect them to "sell-out" in the near future.

Yes! Someone who's listenened to both bands, good on ya mate! AFTY2K is a power-ballad and can really pump you up. I suggest playing it over and over before going into a competition of some sort :D

Who's "The Gimp"? The way you wrote it, it was if his name was Gimp, because you wrote it with a capital letter, unless that was your intention. I think I heard something about someone from Silverchair dating Natalia Imbruglia, and even if I didn't, it's highly likely.

Yes! Someone who's listenened to both bands, good on ya mate! AFTY2K is a power-ballad and can really pump you up. I suggest playing it over and over before going into a competition of some sort :D

I've heard some Alkaline Trio, and it seems OK. Though I wouldn't say punk is a favourite style of mine.
Silverchair aren't bad at all, especially when you consider their ages. And that's not supposed to be a patronising comment. If they develop their own sound more, and get out of the post grunge rut, maybe they'll release something truly great in the future. I thought their last album was a bit too, er, gentle really. Though 'Anthem for the year 2000' has a nice chunky 'We Will Rock You' esque riff.
