The gaming experience is unique in every way. Some people seem to think that films give a similar experience, but that is far from the truth.

Think of the last film you watched and how you felt during its main parts and then how you felt at the end. Now, compare this to any game you have completed. It doesn't matter whether it's Daffy Duck's Adventures or Starfox Adventures, you'll still get the same outcome.. games give a much better experience.

The whole ability to control and alter what is visible on a screen is one that indeed is very attractive. Compare this to films where you can only watch what has been presented over and over again and you'll understand what I mean. The thing that makes the gaming experience so unique and one of the best is that when you come back to play certain games the majority of times you are surprised with something totally new in the game, whereas films and music are limited. They are simply developed and recorded to play the same theme continuously unlike games, which are vastly developed to allow their players to receive extras depending on how well they perform.

Even when gaming had only begun it was still very fun and attractive to many who were willing to give it a go. Graphics barely mattered as the quality of gameplay was the main priority on people's minds. And fortunately enough, even the consoles of low performance were able to meet such demands giving huge amounts of enjoyable gameplay, which propelled the quality of experience in each of their games. The Super Nintendo and Sega MegaDrive are great examples. With very little to attract adult gamers, if you were an adult you would not expect to enjoy the majority of titles on the Snes, but you would be completely wrong. Even Mario Land and Yoshi and all that would leave you in total demand for more, more and more! So what if you’re not shooting down mutant invaders or trying to take over military territory? You can still have as much fun with less violent games, as Nintendo so kindly demonstrated.

But yet still, where would gaming be without violence. It seems to have been the violent games that attracted so much attention. The Street Fighter series and Streets of Rage were both very successful games back then because they gave an experience worthy of recognition on a 16-bit console. Even though they are both very repetitive games, it is the way in which you progress that makes both games very interesting. You meet different characters, unlock different characters and best of all you kick two shades out of your opponents. Delightful!

Rollercoasters and other rides give a fun experience, but notice that when you go on the same ride over and over again it doesn’t seem as good as the first time. Unfortunately, this is the same issue with games, but games have an advantage. Not only is it possible to control your experience with games, but you can also share your experience. Multiplayer is one of the most enjoyable part of gaming, which is why I’m not surprised about so many demands for online gaming to reach the next-gen consoles. But until march, beat ‘em ups will continue to be the best genre for multiplayer on consoles. I’ve always loved beating the hell out of my mates’ fighters, but I’m not sure why!? Is it because I’m very competitive or just plain evil? That’s the thing about beat’em ups – why are they so attractive nowadays? Have people just gone violence mad? Surely not. Improvement and quality is to blame. This genre is one that has come a very long way; from slow, sluggish gameplay to gameplay that’s purely adrenaline driven, which is why they are so enjoyable. Not only because you win all the time, but also because of how thrilling the action is. Dead or Alive 3 on the X-Box has to be the greatest beat ’em up ever made because the action is fast, the gameplay is inventive and boy can those fighters move! All the ingredients that make an excellent fighting game.

Sport is another excellent genre, even though it may not receive much of the overall attention in the industry. But this doesn’t stop them giving the best realistic experience. It’s almost a privilege being able to compete in events you would mostly associate on TV and it’s even better when they imitate them perfectly. Pro Evolution Soccer 2 is undoubtedly the best football game ever made because of its outstandingly realistic gameplay and in depth. NFL 2003 is undoubtedly the best American football title around because it also imitates the sport perfectly. Sport is clearly a genre in which games compete to see who can give the closes experience to the real thing. This is the reason for the annual shower of sports games on the market and also the reason why they just keep on getting better.

The dominant genre of them all that gives the most memorable experiences has to be action/adventure. Games that have a gripping storyline to them have the advantage over games that don’t because this allows them to show computerized movies, which propel the quality of the game as well as gamers’ interest. Metal Gear Solid 2 (who doesn’t know what this is?) is a great action/adventure title that is backed up by a storyline full of suspense and exciting movie sequences. Although the game itself lacked what made its predecessor so successful, its trademark tense atmosphere remained making it still one of the best experiences in a game.

They say graphics don’t matter, but clearly they do. Every type of game has some kind of realism in it and realistic graphics simply spices up the authenticity every game should have. Authenticity makes games seem almost real, which makes for a greater experience. Add this to gameplay that totally involves you in a game and you are left with possibly THE best experience.

In the future, the gaming experience may not be as good as it is now or it could surpass all possibilities. Who knows? But what I do know is that it’s definitely one of the best around and certainly the most unique.

Games are more in depth than the average experience.

Define experience?

It is a particular incident or feeling in which a person has undergone, so an experience could be anything really, from making a cup of tea to flying a jet plane.

You will have come across some extreme incidents like going on the Oblivion in Alton Towers or driving at high speeds, but overall the gaming experience still beats it for one reason alone.. it is everlasting.

Games leave you tense, occassionally make you sweat, glue your eyes to the telly, leave you clutching the control pad and lots of other things. Some may not wish to admit it, but playing certain games channels certain emotions, especially in action/adventure games, and games which do this are ones that give a good experience.

That's what makes games so different from films...the ability to choose exactly what happens (well, to some extent) and it all being your fault is quite thrilling in many good games, almost to the point of tears in some situations.
