I would need a little help, I noticed something weird about the challenge. I hope to be as clear as possible and I also hope there is a simple explanation to the problem.

So, what I noticed is the following:

A short way to put the problem is that my second go is much better than the previous one, all the times at the checkpoints confirm that, but the overall time is still the same. How is that possible???

A more detailed explanation is here:

Every time you do a stage, your time is being compared to some "invisible" time, which shows in each checkpoint you pass, right? So that after passing the checkpoint, the right corner will either show, say -00.10.00 on green or, say +00.10.00 on red, right?

Now, when you finish the stage, you'll be shown an overall time on the left and the comparison (either green or red) on the right.

What happened to me is that, let's say (just round numbers for easy understanding) I finished with an overall time 01.50.00 with the comparison being -00.10.00. That would lead me to believe that my time is being compared to an overall time of 02.00.00, makes sense?

The problem, however, is that, say on a second go, I finish with an overall time of, say 01.50.30, but the comparison is not -00.09.30 (which it mathematically should be) but, for example -00.12.00 (just like my time would've been compared to an overall time of 02.02.30). Again, how is that possible???

I hope you have understood my point, I would be glad to clarify it, but I really need some help here.

It has happened to me many times and lately that's the only thing I've been paying attention to, and I'm getting more and more confused. Of course, there would be an easy explanation to it if the comparison time would be different on each go, but I don't think it makes much sense.

So, is the timing screwed up? Or am I just missing something?

I have got stuck in 1st a few times, the revs get stuck ,you have to quickly brake then accelerate and it change up to second. Wastes lots of time though.

Also from what i've read on other forums is that the some ppl say that the cars have trouble finding the gears or get stuck in 1st gear...Have you found that if you go off the game won't return you to the track in 3 secs and you can't move?

Yep, I wondered if there was a way to get a "quick" start, haven't found one though.

Did you send a detailed explanation (like mine was trying to be) or just a plain question whether the timing's wrong?

Another example from me would be that, say I start the race, go straight full throttle, fly through the first corner and voila, the time in the first checkpoint is worse than the time in the same checkpoint on another go where I was stumbling on grass and rocks in the same corner. I mean, how hard can it be to draw a conclusion about timing?

If it was for avoiding cheating, then firstly - what's there to cheat, you can only see whether you're doing good or not and secondly, if there really was a reason, disable the god damn comparison time and just let the timer run normally!

It is a nice game, but the hype about it (in the ps2 magazines) hasn't really taken account any of its negative sides (which are definitely there).

Actually I don't give a damn about that anymore, I really don't believe much into the timing now that I've had so many negative experiences. So, not much point to take the game seriously.

I will probably get the brush off from the designer saying there is nothing wrong with the timer!! ..so maybe if a few more e-mails were sent from different people saying about the timer we might get a serious answer?

Just a thought
