Maybe not in the Home Console arena, but they've held their ground very well in the handhelds. The DS seems to be doing a lot better than the PSP thanks to stuff like Nintendogs, Brain Training, Mario Kart, Metroid, etc.

A mix of great and well-established franchises, with newer games designed for a wider audience than long-time gamers.

Which is good, but to be fair, for a long time now Nintendo haven't looked very strong at all.

Wii
360
PS3

You never know, the market share results by mid 2007 may end up looking like that...

...however, several market reports do not a future make and it may be that Sony irons all the issues out and gets a good launch. I'm not counting anyone out of the race just yet, but certainly Nintendo look stronger than they ever have before...

Competition is good, but it would be nice to see the gap between Sony and other console developers close significantly, which I think is what will happen. It's certainly a good thing from a buyers perspective as the closer the gap between platforms, the more publishers have to gain from releasing titles multi-platform, so more consoles will get more of the titles, as well as the fact that closing the gap will mean all console manufacturers will have to try harder to push their consoles to more people, probably leading to price cuts in the cost of consoles and maybe even the games themselves.

Makes me cry...

Regardless of whether Sony have, or rather, might do well in this console war, I wouldn't like them to just dissappear.

Take the Dreamcast for example, many people we're dissapointed with the faliure of that console, and with the larger fan base to Sony, it could be an even larger crash and burn scenario.

And don't most people say that they like this non-dominant console war? I know I would hate Nintendo to become what Sony became.

Me too. Some financial analysts blokes actually reckon that Sony's future may rely on the success of the PS3. Apparently they've had very low profit margins for several years, especially compared to other companies (like Panasonic) that have been booming. And so the massive investment in the PS3 and it's subsequent failure could push them to the brink. That makes me smile.

Of course I can afford it. It's just now a point of whether I want to or not.

But the thought of getting a 360 is scary lol, almost feels like I'm being a tratior to Sony... Oh well :-D
