As everyone knows Pokemon and Perfect Dark did more for the N64 of late than all the other games put together.

Is it possible for certain games to guarentee a consoles success on there own. If so then the Nintendo and Playstation have great futures because Square, Konami, and EA can guarentee Sonys future and Rare, and Nintendo games will guarentee Nintendos success, in order to succeed SEGA and X-Box will have to get a sure fire brand that will make sure they will always sell.

Which developer produces the best games Nintendo. Mario, Zelda, Pokemon. Sony don't produce much and SEGA would have to take second place.

The future of a console is not just determined by the games. It is a balance of games, the hardware and good marketing.
Take two examples:
Sega - The Saturn was a good console with some powerful 2d hardware and 3d hardware to (nearly) match the PSX. It came out at the same time as the Playstation (PSX) and did well to start off with thanks to Sega Rally and Daytona, plus the graphics of Clockwork Knight (the game wasn't bad, but it was a 2d platformer) Sega, however, did not keep on with their marketing and did not bring out hundreds of games, so although Nights, Guardian heroes and many others were really good, there was not a lot to choose from. As people realised this they moved to the PSX, third party developers dropped off and the Saturn failed to sell.
Sony - The PSX hit the shelves with an impressive ad campain which meant it started off well. Sony and many third party developers made tons of games to flood the market. The rate of good to bad games was about even, but there was so much to choose from that their system looked impressive. Ridge racer stood out as the champion and the rest is history.
All consoles also rely on the customers buying them and spreading the good word about the games. If a console becomes the 'in thing' no matter of bad games can stop it!
I hope Sega does well with the Dreamcast, but as before they seem to be releasing too few games in too little time, even if most of them are very good.

Games should be the important thing, not the console. You could have the most powerful console in the world, but wthout good games to play on it it'll be no fun. BUT it is impossible to predict the ongoing quality of games for a console at the time of release, which is when most people usually want to but the console. So where does that leave you? You could delay you purchase for 6 mnths or a year (yeah right), but no-one is likely to do that unless they have to. You could make your decision on the games that are released alongside the console, but I suspect a few people bought N64s because of Mario and lived to be disappointed. Or you can buy for the console specs alone, again you are taking your chances as to how good the games will be. Or buy all the consoles, and then have your pick of the good games, but first you'll have to rob a bank, or win the lottery. How about drawing names out of a hat?

Maybe we should start a campaign to get all the big players to band together and produce a super-console, and then none of us could go wrong.

Or you could think about it too much, go mad and run off to the hills to live as a technophobiac hermit......

Well i brought a NES because of the good reviews that Mario 3 got, but that was years ago. Surely the only thing consoles compete on is the strength of their games?
