It may sound stupid, but in an age of weird stuff, gothic kids, and a Labour Governement, nice things are quite a rarity.

Things are especially 'not nice' the the world of gaming. Sure we have a few nice games, but look at the majority... hate filled survival horrors, demonic RPG's and other horrible stuff.

You know what? The only reason the games industry isn't a cesspool of crapness and not-good stuff, is because of the Mushroom Kingdom! That's a fact.

If it weren't for the 120 Stars in the Mushroom Kingdom, games would be based on Sewers. We'd have Sewer City 3000. And Sewer Lake 2002. We'd have Metal Gear of the Sewers, and Star Wars: Jedi Sewerfighter.

You know what's good about Nice games... anyone can play them. Look at Meka, he's about 24! The prime target for the X-Box, yet, in all his wisdom and maturity, he goes for Nintendo - Why? Simply because his daughters can play the Mario and Zelda Games... why can they play them, because they're nice.. they make people smile. They make people happy, they're a testament to nice stuff! Only people like Goatboy have nightmares about Mario and Zelda... and well, Goaty's a bit weird - You know.

But not are these Mario games nice... they're the best in the world. Compelling storylines that are never the same. Changing characters to keep people on their feet. Gorgeous women, and intimidating 'baddies' that are easy to kill so Mario can look really good when he saves the day!

You see, games aren't all about being cool, they're about fun. You don't have to be cool to be a fun person. Look at Mr. Bean... he's a goof. Never in my life have I seen such a berk... yet he's very amusing.

Have you ever played Mario 64? It's a good game.... you might think, what a stupid question, but frankly, a lot of people haven't played it! - Shame that. The only thing Mario 64 lacked, was more character interaction. If it was like Super Mario RPG, with the same levels but none of that fighting crap, it'd have been perfect. I know the core of Mario is run and jump, but playing Super Mario RPG made me wish for more interaction in Mario 64, and even Mario Sunshine.

Speaking of Mario Sunshine, have you ever seen the movie clips of the Space World clip? I've gotta say, i'm impressed. Sure, Candle-shaped light bulbs and sage and onion stuffing flavoured turkey slices impress me, but this was different.

The setting was good... it wasn't just a mario level with a different theme, it actually looked like Mario was in a different place... sure there were Mario bad guys, but there are Jak and daxter bad-guys in those type levels!

I've been hearing rumors that that level isn't in the final game, and that the demo itself wasn't anything like the released product, which is a shame, because it looked fun, and the music was great.

That's another great point about Mario games. The Music. The original Mario brothers theme rules! It's even so good that orchestras have played it! Even the Boston Symphony Orchestra... I know - I have the MP3!! I like the in Mario 64 that the game sticks with the normal themes but adds the level theme to it. Using certain instruments to create a wintery take on the music, etc. That's a rare thing... little things like that that most developers miss.

The Smash Bros. Melee music is quite good. Hirokazu Ando, the music guy, has done Orchestrated versions of all the classic themes... Mario brothers 1, 2 and even 3! Metroid, StarFox... all the classics. Music is very important in games. It creates the atmosphere... sure graphics are a big part of the atmosphere, but you can create more of an atmosphere with just music than you can with just sound.

At Alton Towers in Staffordshire, off junction 13 off some motorway, in the haunted house... there is a part where all you hear is music. And its scarey... well, when you're about 9, but regardless, if there was no sound, it'd be crap! They say music is the universal language... and I agree! Beethoven's 6th Symphony..... Hell yeah!

Maybe it's all nostalgia. I've grown up playing Mario games all my life. I hardly bothered with any other games... I had one Sonic game, but Mario was my gaming substenance... if that's the right word.

But you get my point, about things being crap without Mario and Co. It's like a Fairytale for people of all ages... and even at 18, it makes me smile. What? You think just because i'm 18, I should switch to Survival Horros and all the resident Evil crap... it's not a good thing... girls screaming and all that... it's wrong... damn wrong, and i'm not going to do it!

Maybe it's just me, but when I play Mario 64, i'm happy. When I play Super Mario Kart, i'm happy. It's the same with Mario Golf, and Mario Tennis... it's all fun. Zelda games are almost as good, but they lack a certain flare... they're good, like I said.... but they haven't got that colourful, magical touch... not like Mario.

Plus with Mario... you've gotta love that accent. I wonder how he picked it up anyway... I mean when he died in Mario Bros. he just went "Meh", but then in Mario 64 he says: "It's-a me, Mario!" - I think that Moustach might have had something to do with it! Damn Greasy italians... I mean look at those Game Network people... that Bettina woman is thick as a brick! What she knows about gaming could be written on the head of a drawing pin... in size 18 font... Maybe Tahoma... Italics would be nice... centred as well... none of that justify crap!

But still....

Well, there we go... thanks to the Mushroom Kingdom, we've seen a pletora of 'Nice' games release... most courtesy of Nintendo. Including the best... Mario 64... I mean just look at the castle.... it's picture perfect... trees, stained glass, waterfall, on the coastline... how cool...

But still, i'd better stop of I could be here for hours!

Remember, Mario games are Nice... Mario is the Epitome of Nice... the Mushroom Kingdom is like Heaven in a video game.

Trust me.

Mario is great. :D

I think that the Gamecube's power could allow for 3 characters to move go at once to tag each other.

Donkey, Diddy and Dixie.
They all have to be DK else the barrels that you find them in will be messed up! :-D

For Sure!

I got nothing against the other kongs, some of them are pritty funny :) especially lanky kong :)

Either just have some sort of tag format with two characters, or have different characters do different levels. Not every single character do every single level...finding every single bananna...

It was cool having your partner following you around so you could tag when you felt like it, NOT having to go around solo and look for a tag barrel!

Want to start another petition that the next DK adventure is more faithful to Donkey Kong Country? :-D

Yes, Tagging between the two characters is the way to go...NOT bloody having to complete the level with 5 different bloody characters.

In DKC you could ride all sorts of animals.
The Swordfish and Rhino rocked, the Frog was even better (killed those damn bees), but none as good a Yoshi.

Please note Rare:

It rocked when you RODE animals, not when you TURNED into them!
Tagging between Donkey and Diddy rocked as well.

Sure, they are both great games. Nothing touces the Mine cart levels on DKC, but riding Yoshi is also cool :)

I think that Donkey Kong Country was better but that hardly puts Mario World down...

Mario?? Nah. Super Mario

Dont base your entire opinion of Mario on Mario advance which includes Mario bros which was first released in 1983. And mario bros 2 is crap anyway.

Sure, Nintendo are ripping it a bit by releasing it again some 18 years later, but they are gonna make up for it with Mario advance 2 (which is Super Mario world). Trust me, you need this game in your life. Probably one of the best platformers ever made.
