(Does anyone know what happens if you throw a dart at an aerosol can..?)
(I feel a topic coming on, so I will tell you at the end :o) )
When you try to compare things to other things you will some time or other come up with a very weird comparison, this has happened to me just today.
I was thinking of the good old games, Mario and the such when I realised, while playing darts and listening to hardcore rave music (Another strange mix..) I thought, “Playing darts, or in fact the dartboard is a bit like a game.”
I shall proceed. (Because you are all intrigued, aren’t you..)
Well, we have all thrown a dart, or at least looked at a dart board. We know that 20 is at the top, doubles, and triples. Bulls-eye and that little green circle outside of the bulls-eye (Silly me..) then other numbers placed around the dartboard. Right.
For my little “Test/Topic” I shall use, 20, 5, 1 bulls-eye and the green one. And probably lots and lots more because I’m like that.
The 20.
The master of all games, a classic. But there are 3 types of classic. The first is Normal classic, this game, has been already seen before, but the developer has put lots of extra goodies, intelligent enemies very sharp, crisp graphics and although the game or idea has been seen before, the developer has moved it up a gear, revamped it, but big style. These types of idea’s may have come from a game with a cracking idea, but the developer just didn’t have enough time, or money for that fact to pull it off. So it was a failure. But these developers who were a bit rich and saw the great idea, “Stole” it if you like and revamped it, made it special. Selling thousands but it just didn’t have that edge to be with the big guys. But still the area is big, and there are many games like this. Good, but not good enough.
Double 20, these types of games. Are special. These types of games are not much seen around these days but they are very good. The genre of this game is based on its “Default” genre but made sort of cross-genre. So its special and it stands out in a vast sea of games. The game has good graphics, good everything. The developers are big, but.. just a little bit smaller than the biggies. Still. The games they make are some of those top notch, and sometime they win awards..
Triple 20. The area for these games is very very very small, thus to get this game right, the game must be totally spot on. Games like these will not only become household names like David Beckham but they will sell thousands, in fact millions. With good reason too.
Even if these games miss the triple 20 market, it will nearly almost be a Normal 20.
That’s because these games, although there are like the Double 20 section they have that undefinable magic thing, may it be the game play, or the graphics. Or maybe its just the characters. We as people will never know. Unless someone tells us of course :o)
1’s or 5’s
If a game comes anywhere near this section it means that the game has lost out, big stylee. It had a good plot, just about good everything. It was a near miss. Maybe if the game had come at a different time of year then maybe it would have been a triple 20 worthy game. But for this poor chap. It was not. He came so close, yet so far. Losing thousands of pounds, and having put so much effort into the game and not getting a good outcome, the developers may even dry up. Depending on what “Go” it was. If it was their 1st, then they can rethink and maybe release a stunner in the next year, but if it was their 3rd, their last. They better start typing up those “Company Shutdown” letters.
Bulls-eye
These games are the cream of the crop. To see a game like this is truly made from the heavens. Or maybe from the fairies. In fact this game is like fairy dust. Rare.
These games are something original, they have hardly or never been seen before, they usually establish a new genre, or their company hits it big. These games are weird, because they use different techniques but they pay off well. So very well. Many people aim for these because they want to show off. Many have failed.
Little green circle :-D
These were the show-off’s but still getting a respectable score or rather sale from their first-third game. They wanted to show their class, and almost. These games have been seen before but are a bit more quality than the Normal 20’s. They are good. And very good they shall be but nevertheless green is just not red is it?
Then we have the “Bounce-Outs” of the games (Darts) that miss the board (Market) completely. These games are normally quite good, but they came in at a time when all the games where excellent, meaning that they were basically made unwelcome, and chucked out.
The missed ones though, maybe should think about quitting games production altogether. Giving yourself a bad name by missing the market (Board) completely. And damaging many walls too :o)
