Typical Sonyphile: "You're a good old boy, and weclome to my sister."
Typical Ninty: "You are Satan's spawn. I am going to kill you, possibly with a magic flower*Dringo jumps about in anger*"
I've not gamed before, really, though I do have a GBA for the long journeys to my homeland of Wales that seem to be forced on me every two months or so. I only have a couple of games. I got a PS2 because I wanted a DVD Player in my room. I love films, y'see, and this was a good value DVD Player. But to hell with just DVDs, this thing can play games..or so I'm told. Games, as a result of reading FoG Prime for three months, have become a scray region for me, where the triple inveter Gekko graphics DF Engine is argued, or somesuch wonder. I'm sure I've heard Gekko on here...last time I checked it was a tropical lizard. I used to keep one as a pet.
But I ventured into this world with my first game, Tekken Tag Tournament, and I loved it. Beating the pulp out of my mates without any repurcussions until he gets Lei and does that damn annoying spinny kick thing. Then came Devil May Cry, and that blew me away. It was amazing, to my innocent eyes. Now Max Payne is the rage.
BUT here's the thing. Although I enjoy these things, they're still just something to do in between homework, going out with mates and DVDs. last night I played Tekken for 20 mins before settling down with Memento. This, I'm reliably informed, makes me a casual gamer. Hey, that's fine with me. I like my gaming life just the way it is. I'm afraid of Metal Gear Solid 2, though. It might make me game for more than half an hour a day. Never mind...for now. I just thought you gaming buffs might appreciate a casual gamers point of view on all things gaming:
Graphics - Meh, my knowledge of these goes as far as "Wow, lip synch, Grix can't do that" ;-) or "Meh, Lord of the Rings specials effects rule compared to this. Where's my food?". But I can say they don't really bother me, as long as they are impressive enough. I don't compare pixel rate or whatever...although pixel sounds like pixie, that interests me...
Gameplay - Ah, now this is important. It means i can slash at things or go into bullet-time with the right perspective. It's probably the most important thing to my game, and I like an easy-to-use button configuration.
What else is there really to discuss? Ah, yes.
Console Design - Meh, it's hidden behind my sadly ignored VHS collection. I suppose I prefer Gamecube's, because it's smaller than the rest. (That shows how little I know).
So do you "hardcore gamers" despise us "casual gamers"? I know I have a large ignorance of your favourite hobby, but we also buy these games, and there's a lot of us. Without us, gaming wouldn't develop so well. You need us, though you hate us. Kind of like newbies, really. Look at that for a comparison. Casual gamer = FOG newbie. Hold that in your heart, people.
I may not know my fire flower from my Alastor, but I can damn well kick someone good with Hwoarang on Tekken, and I've completed Devil May Cry. Superb. So what do you guys think of my views? Dringo, don't crucify me, especially with a magic flower.
Cheers,
Stryke.

> makes him more smug.
No my friend Sing the praise of the SNES, the SNES has Mario World still after all these years the best game ever, does the PS2 have a game as good as that.... no exactly...
