Did anyone see the program on C4 last Saturday ?.

I was amazed that Steve Redgrave finished No1. Don't get me wrong, what Redgrave did in winning 5 gold medals was truly amazing and he would have certainly been high on my list - but surely a rowing event can not go down as THE greatest sporting moment.

In my opinion the way to gauge this would be to consider the public reaction to the event. How many people watched Redgrave win in Sydney ?, how many people will remember that moment for the rest of thier lives ?, how many people were dancing in the streets ?.

Anyone who was around when Geoff Hurst scored that hatrick for England in the World Cup will never forget the moment, they will always remember where they were and will surely never forget the 'feel good' feeling that swept the country after Bobby Moore lifted the Jules Rimet trophy. Those of us from a younger generation had a glimpse of how it might have been during Euro96. I am sure most people will also always remember where they were when England beat Germany 5-1 recently. How many of us, in 10,20,30 years time will recall vivid memories of Redgraves 5th gold medal in Sydney ?.

My top 12 would be :

1. England 1966 world cup win.
2. McEnroe-Borg Wimbledon final in 1980
3. Ali-Foreman Rumble in the Jungle
4. Germany 1 England 5
5. Steve Davis - Dennis Taylor World Snooker Final
6. Steve Redgrave 5th Gold Medal
7. England 4 Holland 1 (Euro96)
8. Gazza's goal against Scotland (Euro96)
9. Tourvill and Dean getting the straight sixes.
10. Michael Thomas championship winning goal in '89
11. Goran Ivanisevic Wimbledon win in 2001
12. Maradona's 2nd goal v England in '86 Mexico world cup.

Giggs's Goal against Arsenal...Fa Cup semi final reply at Villa Park.

Most people in this country probably hated that goal. A lot of people probably thought the Arsenal defence were too afraid to go near him...

Anyway, watching it Live was amazing for a United Fan. Like the champions league final, it was looking as if it was not going to be Uniteds day. Keane was sent off, and Arsenal were beginning to dominate the game.

There were a few glimmers of hope, like when Schmiechel saved the bergkamp penalty in the last minute...but arsenal were driving forward at united all the time and I coudnt see nothing but an Arsneal win...But credit goes out to MR. Vieria. Brilliant pass to set up Giggs. The joy of this goal nearly touches the champs league final joy.

Not quite comparable to teams winning the world cup or champions league... but my personal fave is....

Nigel Winterburn scoring the winner at Chelsea a few years back.

Simply because he's one of the least likely people out of the gooners team to score... and it was quite late in the game I think.... and it was like a bending 30yrd screamer!!

.... and Im a gooner... when my dad is a blues fan.

I fcuking loved it!

I completely agree with you here. This was the most dramatic few minutes in football that I have had the pleasure to watch. This is the first time I have ever cheered when United, that's how good it was! I can only imagine what Man Utd fans were doing.

I thought it was bizzarre that the incident with Tyson biting off Holyfieds ear made the top30 in the C4 poll. How can that be a sporting moment. It was a moment of madness from a complete loony and convicted rapist and he should have been kicked out of the sport for good. Shame on you C4.

Absolutely agree with Ortega there. Words can't describe how happy I was when united cambe back to win that in injury time.

The thing about sporting events, is that some last longer than others. I don't think something can really give you the same rush from seeing it if it happens over the course of a few hours. Also, the list was rather biased towards England football matches. Yes, Owens goal was good, but to say it's one of the 100 greatest sporting moments of all time is a travesty.

THe greatest thing I have seen Live is Man Utd scoring the two goals in injury time. (champs league final 99)

Not the best of goals, but it was just an amazing rush watching it. After being so depressed for much of the game due to a poor united performance the goals going in were that little bit extra oh so special.

I dont think that type of finish to a final will be repeated in a long time. Amazing.

I think the 100 Greatest Sporting Moments was quite a brave thing to do by C4. Although it was voted for by the general public, I don't think there could be a list without some people saying, 'Shouldn't this be higher than this?' and 'I can't believe this isn't included!' At the end of day, I agreed with nearly all of the list except Redgrave winning 5 gold medals should have been swapped round with the 66 World Cup.

I really enjoyed watching this program nevertheless, watching a few great moments really brought back memories. I'm especially greatful for them showing Marco Van Basten's volley, how I love that goal.

Bear in mind this is my opinion and will probably be slightly biased.

1. England 5 Germany 1 (Still brings a smile to my face)

2. Liverpool's 5 trophies. (I suppose me watching all 5 matches makes it stand out more. The UEFA cup final was incredible.)

3. England's World Cup 66. (We really need to win another)

4. Steve Davis V Dennis Taylor 85 final. (I can still remember this match.)

5. Redgrave's 5th gold. (I actually stayed up and watched it. I thought the Italians were going to nick it.)

My memory is quite bad. The recent event stand out more to me. Plus I get reminded a lot of the ones on that list.
