I got my Master System when I was 5.

I had about 30+ games with it as my Cousin wanted to abandon it for a Mega Drive. I was happy with my Master System though, even throughout the days when the SNES and the Mega Drive were in force.

It wasn't one of those Master System 2 thingys. Nope, this one was just the 'Master System', no 2 in that. So it was more chunkier and stuff and the noly difference was that it had Duck Hunt and Hang On istead of Alex Kidd built in. No worry's, I liked shooting Duck's.

I remember two of my favourite games being Rastan and Wonderboy 3: The Dragons Trap. Rastan was excellent fun and a real challenge, probably not anymore but it was back then. Me and my Dad would play it ever so often and take each level in turn and see how far we could get. One day we completed it, loved that.

Like Rastan I had Wonderboy from the start. It was one of the games my Cousin had thrown in the bundle and flogged off to my Parents. I'd play it, I'd enjoy it and that would go on for many years. Then one week I'm playing it and there's this cheat code screen where you just enter and code and you get the cheats. What cheats they were I didn't know. I sat there for a while just entering stuff in and each time getting the wrong thing. So as you do, I gave up.

A few days after that I remember going somewhere in the car. There's a long street far away from here filled with shops selling everything from cars to sweets. Thinking about it actually I think we were going to buy a new car.

My parent's get back from looking at some cars and then start up the engine again to go further on down the street. Me just sitting in the back, watching the shops go past. Suddenly a shop stands out from all the rest, I was just attracted to it's name for some reason and found it stood out from all the others. It was a black font on a yellow background and read 'West One'.

The car carried on going, I thought nothing of it.

Next day I'm back in my room again just playing some Master System games. I find myself on Wonderboy 3 again, just doing the usual one player mode going nowhere fast. My Dad calls from downstairs "Dinner Ryan!", "Coming!" I shout back. A this time I was on the password screen again and suddenly I remembered the day before and 'West One'.

I go to type it in as fast as I could as I knew my Dad would call out again any minute. I type the W, I type the E, I go to type the S but there is no S there. A bit confused I used a 5 as the S with it being pretty identical and then after I finished off to spell out 'We5t One'.

Looking at it on screen I didn't think it would work, the two words only took up 1/4 of the digits availble on screen but I still pressed 'Ok' just to see what happened.

Then came the weirdest moment ever.

A level loaded up and it looked as though the cheat had worked. I remember having all the items unlocked and alot of money to spend. It truly was one weird exprience.

I can't really remember how I felt at the time it happened, I was more excited then anything else. But what on earth made this somewhat coincidence happen was the strangest thing I've ever been involved in.

Who ever would of thought a cheat code could scare me so much?

It was a conspiracy. Obviously. Involving aliens, Black Ops government agencies, a ruthless dictator (Tony Blair...) and a plot to cover up the existence of zombies and a race of hyper intelligent monkeys.

Duh.
