My favourite of these titles are:
Tony Hawk pro Skater 3:
The Hawk is flying again, this time he has set up nest in the comtable world of Playstation 2.
Tony Hawk was born on May 12th, 1968, in sunny San Dieago, California. Since then he's been skateboarding, and has achieved a huge number of amazing things, He owned his first house before he left high school, he is the only person ever to perform the 900, and has several skatboarding and clouthing businesses. But his biggest stunt to date, is when he signed his name on the dotted line, to game stardom.Together Neversoft and Activision created the amazing tony hawks game, that mixed great visulas, with even greater gameplay. They made one of the most addictive games since tetris. Then there was tony hawks 2, and now there are three.
The Playstation is already known world wide for its incredable graphics, smooth frame rates and fantastic gameplay. It has a number of great games already on the shelfs, GT3, Silent hill 2, Jak and Daxter,GTA3, WWf smackdown and now tony hawk has settled into the top with them.
The idea behind tony hawk is simple, you skate around a wide variety of huge levels, performing tricks and completing tasks. simple. The tasks are of a mixed variety, some challenge you to collect letters (w-e-h-a-v-e-n-t-s-e-e-n-t-h-a-t-b-e-f-o-r-e) others ask you to collect things or destroy things etc, etc, etc. You travel all around the world, from the busy streets of LA, to the frozen over canada. From tokyo to suburbia. Each location offers a unique range of obsticles to help you, or get in your way.
Tony isnt in it on his own, he's brought along his homies, his possie, his crew, his boys (and girls)..um ok i will stop there. Skate as one of 12 characters, some who you may reconise from previous skating outings. Viewers of MTV's Jackass, may reconise one of the skaters (apart from tony hawk) Bam margera, is there to help out with a kickflip here and there. Theres also a very long roster of secret characters, who I wont give away, but I will give you some clues. One is from star wars, another from a marvel comic and another is a surfer. There are two styles of boarders, vert and street, to the un-trained eye you couldnt tell them apart, but in the carreer mode, some missions will vary depending on your dudes style.
The graphics are as sharp as can be, and run at a smooth, fast frame rate. which we have come to expect from the hawkster over the previous few years. The sound is so great, it has been called the greatest game soundtrack..ever! featuring vocals from alien ant farm, red hot chillie peppers, xzibit and some others who you peobably have probably never heard of. Famous or not famous every song is brillient, and really gets you pumped and into the mood for skating.
Did I mention that you could create your own skater and build your own park? no, then let me explain. A bit like the kind of thing we have seen on wwf games, you pick the parts, edit the details and you have your own, high flying, kickfliping machine. then theres the park editor, choose the ramps, the rails and everything else you could possibly imagine (lava? oh yes thats there) put them all together and you have a park, now all you have to do is give it a name. 2 player mode is great with a number of modes including horse (dont ask) king of the hill, graffiti, trick attack or just plain free skate.
theres also online capabilities, which would be great, if only the PS2 modem wasnt coming out until April of 2002. but when its all up and running, you can play in online skatparks against anyone, in the world. aslong as they have a PS2, Tony hawk 3, and a modem.
Graphics: 9
Gameplay: 10
Sound: 10
Lastability: 10
This is a great, must have, gaming masterpiece. that will apeal to skaters and non skaters alike. If you like a good game, you will enjoy this skate fest, that really is fun to the last grind. with so many options, you and your PS2 will be buzzing for ages.
Buy this game, and I will see you in a year or two, when your finished.

Airblade:
Someone had to do it, didnt they. Someone had to make a PS2 clone of Tony hawk pro skater, one of the most fun and succesfull games ever. But when criterion studios was cloning the game, a few errors accured. the game lost the skate parks, the officialy licened boarders and boards and most noticable, the wheels. Thats right the wheels on the board dont go round and round anymore, instead, the board floats around going swish, swish, swish, all day long.
Now I have never, every in my life been hover boarding, and therefore have no experience at all, but I enjoyed this speedy little game, a lot. Your first instict when you load up this game into your little black box, and pick up the controller is to do some tricks. Now at first pulling of tricks is a bit trickey, as there is no longer the need for ramps. just float along, when you feel like going freestyle just tap in a quick and easy button comb and you will be pulling of flips, spins and loops, like never before. Just like tony hawks and every other extram sports game every made, theres still miles of rails and walls for you to grind along. the strange thing is, the even though your floating above the ground, when you grind you still hear the usual grnding noises, hmm? a nice feature that is only possible when hover boarding is to grab hold of a lamp post, or other poles and spin around them, till you get very dizy.
The story behind the game is as follows.
You have come under prosession of a future-istic, back to the future style, hover board. But theres a whole host of ad guys out to get you and your floatin board. They kidnap your mate, so you must set out to save him (man thats original, ive never seen that before).you compete in several missions, over 7 levels. each mission basiacly consists of you having to destroy, smash or break something.
Theres also a great mulitplay mode. where you and up to 8 of your best mates, can compete to see who has the most air in their blade.one of the modes is called tape. you have to find the tape, then keep it in your possesion without your oponet stealing it.the longer you have it,the bigger it gets, thus making it easier to capture. after the time limit ends, the person with the most steals wins.
This game is futuristicly fantastic. if your a bit like me and are getting a bit board of the same old, skate, grind and jump that is tony hawk the this could be right down your alley (or ollie as it were :D)
Gameplay: fun from start to finish, lots of tricks, brillient
Graphics: This is what the PS2 is all about, amazing, real life graphics, at a smooth and fast, constant frame rate.
Sound: a kicking soundtrack, that will be hard to beat
Lastability: with 7 levels, hudreds of tasks and mission, plus a great multiplayer mode, you will still be playing this one when hover boards are a every day sight.
Overal: 10/10
But when you buy this great game, you dont just get a blinding game, it also comes with a dvd style list of extras, including a making of feature.
I cant stress how great this game is, and how real it feels even though you do its fake.
Even if you have never been hoverboarding, you will enjoy this game and be sucessful at it and so will your mates. you may be a bit better st the game if you have come back from the future, where you tried hover boarding for real, but I cant comment on that.
So buy now, its like totaly, awsome, and radical man, you'd be bogus not to get it.

Another title which I enjoy is Dave Mirra 2. As I have only just got this game yesturday i cant go into much detail. but I can tell you it is very good. Sure its not as fast as THPS3 but thats because your on a big chunk of metal, not a light weight skateboard. The levels are massive and packed with obsticles, ramps and rails. One the first level there is a go-cart track which has a never ending race. As a racer comes round you can hop on and grind along on the cart as it races.
But what is it that makes these games so popular? All they basicaly are, are jump, trick, point games. The only difference between them are the licences they hold. One reasen you they may be so popular is that people can experience something new. A lot of people would like to go snowboarding etc in real life, but cant. So they buy a game to experience that event, it may not be real but its as close as you can get. A reasen you may by a skating or BMX game could be that you do it in real life, but in a game you can control your hero's and perform stunts you couldnt do yourself.
Whatever the reasen for their popularity, one things for sure they will be around for a long time to come. Im certain we will be seeing Mr Hawk, Mr mirra and um Mr Tricky for many more years. Which is nice!
Now its time for me to ask you something. You have sat there patiently reading this post for a while now so time for you to get involved. I have some questions:
1. do you enjoy extreame sports games?
2. What is your favourite?
3. What is your worse?
4. Why do you think they are so popular?
Thanks For reading

happy now?
