This, the first full album from the now legendary SoCal hardcore political punks, is an awesome blast. It encapsulates their spirit, and their early material strikes as many nerves, if in a less political, and more social, sense. Special mention should definitely go to the original Bro Hymn, now the song dedicated to Pennywise member Jason Matthew Thirsk (RIP), and a song that has become a general punk rock anthem, it even got played as the kind of outro track to the first show of the Lockup on Radio 1.

Another particularly notable song is 'The Secret', not just because it is a great song, but because of the almost ironic lyrics in it. "We're only gonna die off, in time, we're only gonna die off, in time, we're only gonna die before our time". This draws parrallels to Jason Matthew Thirsk, who did die before his time. This is one of the few Pennywise releases with Jason Matthew Thirsk on bass, and he wrote the majority of lyrics for this release.

The song 'Come OUt Fighting' has been covered by the punks The Vandals, on their 'Hitler Bad, Vandals Good' album. Pennywise's self titles album is an awesome album, and fans of their later material will really appreciate the songs, and seeing where this incredible band started.

Any fan of Pennywise must own this album. Any fan of Punk in general should get this album. Any Blink182, Sum41, etc. fans should get this and find how punk rock really sounds.
