Hello...
I am posting this general rant to raise as many issues as possible in a small amount of text... this is because I have not posted a topic in here for ages, and when I did it was pretty pathetic. There a mini sections, so you don't have to read the whole post, just the sections that interest you.

---------------------GAMES: PRESENT-------------------------

Anyway... Looking at the latest issue of Nintendo NGC magazine (as I'm sure most of you already have) the most striking thing to me was that most of the reviewed GC titles were so-so games. 3 Sports titles (Fifa 2002, Madden 2002, and NHL Hitz 20-02) all scored in the 70s, ther was a crap Tarzan port, an average Batman game, and a port of Dave Mirra BMX, getting 75%. So, nothing really worth getting then? Well, no. Not unless you count Tony Hawks 3, a PS2 conversion, which in truth is slightly inferior to the PS2 version. Oh, but then there is our saviour. Something no Nintendo fan could EVER resist. Super Smash Bros. Melee...

It got 95% and was said to be the first Ninty game on GC to have that Nintendo 'magic' feel. And it does look blummin awesome. Forget about what was posted in here saying it was a disappointment. Just look at the facts. You can take control of an all star cast of Nintendo characters from past, and present, you battle it out on arenas of some of the most classic Nintendo games ever created, and collect trophies of numerous Nintendo stars, including a handy bit of info about where each is from... Just imagine the nastalgia trips looking through your trophies! You're going to want to get every last one purely to find those reminders of Nintendo back in the 'good old days'!

-----------------------EUROPEAN RELEASE---------------------

Well, now my rant about the reviews is over, we'll move onto a more sensitive subject. That of a release date. We have all been eagerly waiting the expected announcement by Nintendo some time this month or in early February, but so far we haven't heard a final rlease date, leaving us all open to specualtion. There have been so many rumours flying around. Nintendo plan to pre-empt the X-box, they're going to release close to Xbox to steal its thunder, they can't get enough units until Summer, but they don't want to release in Summer, as it is a slow time for games, so they are waiting till just before Christmas, rumours have been flying around like wildfire. Now lets be rational.

Nintendo aren't going to wait till Xmas 2002. That is suicide. No one is going to wait that long, over a year after both USA and Japan got their GCs. People will simply import, or abandon Ninty altogether. So rule that one out. Waiting until September has the same pit falls, so we can ignore that rumour too. A release before Xbox seems unlikely, since Nintendo still have not released a firm date, and they need time for shops to get stock, promotion, etc. in for the launch. A date in March could be true, although it is increasingly looking like it will be just after March, sometime in April, or at the worst in May.

Do not fear... Nintendo WILL be here!

----------------GAMES: FUTURE-------------------------------

Well, looking at NGC mag, games look promising. We have the ever impressive looking Resi Evil (though how it'll play is an entirely different matter), the quality assured Star Fox adventures, the 'return to roots' Turok Evolution, with more dino's, jungles, sniping, sneaking, and huge 'Big f***ing guns' back to make a bang on the console FPS scene. Something else touched on in NGC mag was the number of ports seen on GC. I don't see this as a bad thing. We are getting the 'best of' PS2 games, maybe we aren't getting ALL the best titles, but certainly some of the crowd pullers, like THPS3, SSX Tricky, and Crazy Taxi. But the good is basically more games out on the shelves. Developers aren't wasting time creating these games for GC, they simply port then over to GC, which takes much less time that starting from scratch. This means that multi-format developers have more time to dedicate to actual GC games, and the GC simply has a boosted library of games. No N64 style games shortage will occur because we will see ports of PS2/Xbox games hit the GC. And surely it'll make the waiting for the 'big' GC exclusives seem much shorter, when we can say to PS2 owners who were previously harping on about having all these great games, that we have half their great games, as well as all the exclusives from Nintendo, Rare, and all the other second parties, (not to mention Rogue Leader!)

But the future of Nintendo GC is really with the exclusive games. That's the reason why we want GCs right? Nintendo are without a doubt one od the best developers ever, and Rare are too. Exclusives from these two companies will give us all the 'must have' titles we could ever want, and if we just can't wait for that next Nintendo gem, then this time we can fill the void with a decent selection of third party titles, including some of the best PS2 games.

------------------THE FINAL WORD----------------------------

Well this is pretty much end of rant. I'd just like people now to try and remember what drew than to Nintendo in the first place. It is that Nintendo magic. They can take any genre, turn any preconceptions you may have of it on their heads, and create a truely ingenious, innovative, and fun experience of it. Smash Bros. is a one of a kind fighter. There are no Strategy games quite like Pikmin. Mario has revolutionised platforming with just about every new title (The original Super Mario Bros. then Mario 3, then Mario World, then Mario 64!), and many other titles have created a die hard following, Metroid, Star Fox/Lylatwars franchise, Zelda, and many more. Nintendos strength remains in their ability to innovate to create new franchises, and stick with the old ones, bringing them to new heights of popularity.

Just remember that the next time you wish you were playing GTA3 or MGS2. Pick up your favourite Nintendo franchise, and feel the magic.

If I ever buy a Gamecube there will be a lot of games out for it. I will not buy it or any other next-gen console until:
1. I'm bored of my N64
2. It's cheaper

I tried to read this but couldn't.

I'm sick to death of reading how great the Gamecube is.
I just want to play the damn thing.

my point was just that no 'killer app' titles are coming out, and although it is good that we are getting games out (unlike the N64 was) we still need some more must have titles to get more people buying GCs.
